We agree with Joe Burns that every brand is trying to talk/sound like Your Cool Friend? these days. So, how do you break free from "hey bestie" and find your own unique brand voice? 1. First off, how do you ACTUALLY talk? Consider that! We humans do, in fact, enjoy reading copy that is written the way we speak. 2. Take a step back and consider your brand. What is your mission? What are your goals? What do you do? If your brand were a person, would it say "hey bestie!" or "hello comrade" or "sup dawg"? 3. How is your product/service meant to make people feel? For example, if your brand is in the healthcare realm, your voice should evoke feelings like safety, comfort, trust, and reassurance. 4. Who is your demo? Who are you trying to attract, engage, and delight with your content? If it's Gen Z, then having buzzwords like "yapping" and "rizz" in your copy might make sense. If your primary audience is 40- and 50-something men — "yapping" probably won't resonate. Multiple target audiences? Tailor your messaging slightly to the channels where each audience shows up and who shows up there. Owned, earned, and paid. 5. Be nimble and adaptable when it comes to developing and making tweaks to a brand voice. 6. Experiment based on engagement. Pay attention to which ads, campaigns, and social media posts perform really well, and which ones fall flat. 7. Don't make any sudden movements! This isn't cause for a brand identity crisis. Language changes and tone shifts can be made over time. But if you're looking for a rebrand or a more comprehensive communications strategy, we're your BESTIES. Let's connect!

Serving up strategic cold-cuts in a world of lukewarm hot-takes / Strategy @ Quality Meats Creative:

Hey Bestie ?? Is it just me, or is every brand trying to be Your Cool Friend? these days? You know - that quirky, irreverent, overly-online, tone of voice? The one that used to feel fresh but now feels like a copy-paste job across every category? The kind of tone that says things like 'hey bestie', and 'is it just me', and loves emoji punctuation? Well... I wrote a thing about it ?? Give it a read ?? Or don’t ?? I’m not your boss ??

?? 6 tips for how to come up with ideas when you have NONE: ?? Find a good place to have bad ideas. Author and artist Austin Kleon stresses the importance of a notebook or sketchbook. He says “It won’t judge you, troll you, or talk back to you. It won’t spy on you, ping you, or notify you.” Ideas, good or bad, aren’t doing much of anything floating around in your head. Make them physical and give them weight. ?? Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine you were the person seeing your idea after you had followed it to its execution. What would impress you? What would you feel was lacking? How would they interact with it? After considering these perspectives, work backwards to refine your original idea. ?? One step at a time. In Oliver Burkeman’s essay, “Stop Multitasking, No Really -- Just Stop It,” he urges readers to “identify the small tricks you use to avoid being fully present with whatever you’re doing.” He argues that multitasking reinforces the belief that you can only tolerate the activity by distracting yourself. It makes it less enjoyable. Stop thinking you can do everything, that you can be in two places at once. You’re only human! ?? Pick your battles. Are you holding yourself to a standard that is ultimately unreachable given your time limit, energy levels, or the value of this project? Sometimes, you really can just go with your first idea. Pace yourself. Pick your battles. Maybe you can give 50% on this task, so that you can be ready to give 100% on one that really, really matters. ?? Touch grass, hun. Really. A walk, fresh air, sunlight... They can be grounding forces to our brains! Here in Rochester, we don’t get a huge amount of sunny, warm weather this time of year. But even the shock of cool winter air or the smell of rain can help you reset. Besides, we’re not machines-- breaks from work are healthy and should be encouraged. ?? Go fish. David Lynch once wrote, “Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper. Down deep, the fish are more powerful and more pure. They’re huge and abstract. And they’re very beautiful.” We’re just gonna leave that there for you to think about. What do YOU do to cure creative block? #creativeblock #marketingtips #contenttips

Let's face it: If you work in digital marketing and/or social media, your paycheck is contingent upon your continued use of apps that have become problematic and censored nearly overnight. As a socially conscious, mission-driven marketing agency, the question we've been asking ourselves is how we can continue using Meta and TikTok in the most socially responsible way possible. Here are some options we've come up with: ??? DELETE PERSONAL ACCOUNTS. The fact is - many of the people we need to reach are still on these platforms, and no other apps have replaced them yet. We can't simply tell our clients we'll no longer use Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok (lol). What we can do is divest ourselves on a personal level and delete our own accounts. ?? STRATEGIC BLOCKING & UNFOLLOWING. Many people have reported that their algorithm has gone back to [mostly] normal after blocking the official accounts of Facebook, Instagram, and Meta. We're also taking inventory of who we follow - and unfollowing those who don't align with our values (including companies that have recently ditched or scaled back on DEI initiatives). ??? TAKE A STAND. We might not be able to delete the apps (yet), but we can use them to speak out, spread pertinent news & information, and do our best to call out and stop the spread of misinformation. Neutrality is complicity. ?? BE AN EARLY ADAPTER ON NEW PLATFORMS. It's still too early to know which app the masses will migrate to (if any). RedNote is having its moment, and BlueSky recently announced that they have a photo app in the works. We recommend claiming your username on any relevant new apps and keeping an eye on which ones are taking off! How is your company handling the Meta/TikTok crisis?

?? When it comes to branding, colors have meaning — and the POWER to influence EMOTION. ?? It’s important to choose the color (or colors) that evokes what you want people to FEEL when they see your logo, scroll through your website, interact with your content, etc. ?? Yellow, for instance, evokes feelings of optimism, clarity, and happiness… ?? … while green symbolizes growth, health, and tranquility. ?? Be intentional with your color palette! ??
