We agree with Joe Burns that every brand is trying to talk/sound like Your Cool Friend? these days. So, how do you break free from "hey bestie" and find your own unique brand voice? 1. First off, how do you ACTUALLY talk? Consider that! We humans do, in fact, enjoy reading copy that is written the way we speak. 2. Take a step back and consider your brand. What is your mission? What are your goals? What do you do? If your brand were a person, would it say "hey bestie!" or "hello comrade" or "sup dawg"? 3. How is your product/service meant to make people feel? For example, if your brand is in the healthcare realm, your voice should evoke feelings like safety, comfort, trust, and reassurance. 4. Who is your demo? Who are you trying to attract, engage, and delight with your content? If it's Gen Z, then having buzzwords like "yapping" and "rizz" in your copy might make sense. If your primary audience is 40- and 50-something men — "yapping" probably won't resonate. Multiple target audiences? Tailor your messaging slightly to the channels where each audience shows up and who shows up there. Owned, earned, and paid. 5. Be nimble and adaptable when it comes to developing and making tweaks to a brand voice. 6. Experiment based on engagement. Pay attention to which ads, campaigns, and social media posts perform really well, and which ones fall flat. 7. Don't make any sudden movements! This isn't cause for a brand identity crisis. Language changes and tone shifts can be made over time. But if you're looking for a rebrand or a more comprehensive communications strategy, we're your BESTIES. Let's connect!

Hey Bestie ?? Is it just me, or is every brand trying to be Your Cool Friend? these days? You know - that quirky, irreverent, overly-online, tone of voice? The one that used to feel fresh but now feels like a copy-paste job across every category? The kind of tone that says things like 'hey bestie', and 'is it just me', and loves emoji punctuation? Well... I wrote a thing about it ?? Give it a read ?? Or don’t ?? I’m not your boss ??
