“He just growls.” When a group of school kids came out to the Divine Equine Therapeutic Riding Center, their leaders explained how one twelve-year-old boy was nonverbal. Cynthia Nell Ward, executive director at Divine Equine, and her staff took the information in stride. In the arena, every time the boy pointed at the gate, they said, “Gate.” They repeated this several times. After 10 minutes of browsing around the horses and hay, they stopped in front of the gate again. The boy pointed and said, “Open gate." Aside from their vibrant colors and elegant petal shape, tulips embrace two meanings shared by the Texoma Health Foundation and Reba’s Ranch House: perfect love; hope. This symbolism lives inside the Julia and Herman Ringler Reception Room of the Texoma Health Foundation (THF). Custom wallpaper created from a tulip photograph taken by Julia adorns one wall. Trapped. Alone. That’s how many people are feeling when they reach out to the Fannin County Family Crisis Center. One of those clients was Lucy. Physical and emotional abuse left her in turmoil, and she felt she had nowhere to go and no support to leave her abuser. But at the Crisis Center, she discovered they had the resources she needed. Her advocate walked with her every step as she found her way out of the abuse and into a new life. Lucy is now working toward becoming a counselor in her church. She wants everyone to know that if they are having a hard time with their partner, there is always someone who can help them at the Crisis Center. The day Julie Rickey was able to buy orange juice for her kids, she knew she’d achieved something significant. As a single mom coming out of abuse and living in poverty, she wanted to take steps to get stable in her life. Buying orange juice was a milestone. “People that are in poverty never planned to be there, but another situation has trapped them into that,” Julie says. “I know the feelings of ‘how is this ever going to change?’ and the fears and depression that go along with that. For me to step out of that was a faith-based decision.” Read about the impact Julie and the Masterkeys Ministries has on individuals, families, and the next generation: https://lnkd.in/gUezuiJE
