The Phoenix Business Accelerator was established by the Texas Economic Development Corporation in 2024, and we are thrilled to announce our grand opening! The Phoenix aims to assist businesses and entrepreneurs within their first three years of operation by providing low-cost office space and a full suite of amenities. Additionally, membership with the Phoenix will connect our clients to the Houston Cannon, not to mention a range of educational opportunities. The Texas City Economic Development Corporation (TCEDC) is a non-profit corporation created for the purpose of promotion and development of new and expanded businesses within the City of Texas City. The TCEDC was established in April 1993 as a 4A Corporation, utilizing a ? cent sales tax that was approved by the voters of Texas City. The administration of the corporation is vested in a board of directors and staff. The City of Texas City Commission appoints the board of directors. The TCEDC’s operating and capital budgets are approved by the City of Texas City Commission as well. The TCEDC facilitates economic development through a variety of instruments including: incentives, site selection services, strategic partnerships, workforce initiatives, small business assistance, and business retention efforts.

The City of Texas City had the wonderful opportunity today to participate in TCISD’s Career and Training Education (CTE) Program Ambassador Leadership Conference! Joe Tumbleson, Homeland Security Director/Emergency Manager; Kristin Edwards, Director of Economic Development; Jennifer Price, Human Resources Director; and Ariel Callis, Economic Development Project Manager each met and conducted mock interviews with freshman through senior students in the CTE program. “It was such an honor to participate in the CTE Ambassador Leadership Conference again this year,” Edwards said. “These students have very bright futures ahead of them in a range of industries – we can’t wait to see where their career paths will lead them!”

On Monday morning, the Texas City Economic Development Corporation, joined by several members of the City Commission, participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the Texas City Community Plaza! This fantastic amenity, to be located at 718 6th Street, will feature a food truck park, a water play area, playground equipment, a performance stage and a dog park. Construction has begun, and the project should be complete in about 12 months. Also in attendance at the event was the project architectural firm, Clark Condon, B&D Contractors, and City staff from Administration, Public Works and Planning and Engineering. This project is a true team effort, and we want to thank everyone who came out for this special day!
