TVC's Health Care Advocacy Department is a team that acts on the veterans behalf as a liaison between veterans and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to resolve access issues involving VA health care related services. They will work to resolve VA health care related pharmacy and medication concerns, appropriate medical tests and lab work, travel pay issues, appointment scheduling, medical co-pay waivers, and enrollment / eligibility issues. Today on KXAN News, TVC Veteran Mental Health Director Dr. Blake Harris, Travis County Judge Brad Urrutia and Navy veteran and program graduate Kevin Cancino, discussed the impact of Veterans Treatment Courts and how they help veterans. Veterans Treatment Courts provide justice-involved veterans with the resources they need to rebuild their lives. Since 2011, Travis County’s program has seen 369 successful graduates. TVC proudly supports these courts through grants and our Mental Health Department, helping veterans access benefits and vital support. March 25th is National Medal of Honor Day, designated by the U.S. Congress to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Medal of Honor recipients. Today, TVC proudly recognizes all recipients and highlights those who are Texas Veterans. Among them is MSG Roy P. Benavidez, a United States Army Green Beret who displayed extraordinary valor on May 2, 1968, while serving with Detachment B-56, 5th Special Forces Group, 1st Special Forces in Vietnam.
