Next up, in our "Get to Know" series featuring our team members, is Deena. Deena is a radiation therapist at Texas Radiotherapy and takes great care of every patient she has. Question: Deena, what is your favorite childhood memory? Answer: "One year, while I was still pretty young, we went snow skiing for Christmas. The lodge, where we stayed, had a big, beautiful staircase leading up to the rooms. When we got up Christmas morning, all of our stockings were filled and laid out going down the staircase. I remember being so excited and thinking how amazing it was that Santa knew where we were, and that he found us in Colorado. What sneaky, hard-working parents I had to have been able to pull off that wonderful Christmas for us!" Question: What are you looking forward to in 2025? Answer: "I've been praying about the upcoming year. I have the opportunity to do some new volunteer work starting this next year, and I am very excited about that. It is a new calling for me." Question: What is your favorite memory from your career so far? Answer: "My goodness, I've had so many and have met the most wonderful people over the last 30 years as a radiation therapist. One in particular was in my first year of working. We treated a teenage boy with a complex brain tumor. When we first started his treatment, he was basically unresponsive and unconscious. By the time we finished his treatment he was walking and talking and understanding everything. It was amazing. I kept in touch with him and his parents after his treatment. He was able to graduate from high school and go to college. It meant a lot to me to have been a part of his care." Question: Why did you choose your profession in radiation therapy? Answer: I first thought that I wanted to be a nurse, and then I discovered the career of a radiation therapist. I loved the idea of helping people with cancer. No one ever says that they want to have Cancer. If I can be a positive light to our patients, each day, then I've done some good." Yesterday, Sara Cavey, had the opportunity to speak to Purple Heart recipients at the #lockheedmartinarmedforcesbowl2024 about prostate cancer.
