The Texas Pension Review Board (PRB) is mandated to oversee all Texas public retirement systems, both state and local, in regard to their actuarial soundness and compliance with state law. Our mission is to provide the State of Texas with the necessary information and recommendations to ensure that our public retirement systems, whose combined assets total in the multi-billions, are financially sound, benefits are equitable, the systems are properly managed, tax expenditures for employee benefits are kept to a minimum while still providing for those employees, and to expand the knowledge and education of administrators, trustees, and members of Texas public pension funds.

Orange Firemen's Relief & Retirement Fund is authorized under the Texas Local Fire Fighters Retirement Act (TLFFRA) and is located close to the Louisiana-Texas border. Systems operating under TLFFRA are entirely locally funded and each have their own local boards of trustees governed by state statute. Orange Fire had 37 active members and 36 annuitants?as of December 31, 2023, that have served and continue to serve the city's 19,324 residents. The Texas Pension Review Board (PRB) recently hosted its biennial Legislative Pension Basics Seminar (Pensions 101) for legislative staff and the meeting recording and presentation are now available online on the PRB's 89th Legislative Session resource page: https://lnkd.in/gnzMxwfb The training covers the landscape and financing structure of public retirement systems in Texas as well as the PRB’s role in providing actuarial impact statements for bills affecting those systems.

Happy Valentine's Day from the PRB! This Valentine's Day checklist highlights the five reports due to the PRB annually. The PRB-1000 (Investment Returns and Assumptions Report), Annual Financial Report (AFR), and PRB-200 (Membership Report) are due to the PRB within 210 days after the end of the previous fiscal year. The PRB-2000 (Minimum Educational Training Program) and PRB-150 (Registration & Board Information) are due annually by April 1.
