Congratulations to Nichole Berry, LVN of Texas Breast Specialists on her impactful presentation at the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) Annual Conference! Her team's study demonstrated remarkable results in improving preoperative lymphedema care for breast cancer patients. Through implementing a collaborative, multispecialty approach, they achieved a 257% increase in preoperative lymphedema evaluations – rising from 24% to 84% of eligible patients receiving this crucial preventive care. This innovative approach brings together breast surgical oncologists, clinic nurses, certified lymphedema therapists, and nurse navigators to enhance patient outcomes and potentially reduce the risk of chronic breast cancer-related lymphedema, which affects 1 in 5 breast cancer patients. We're incredibly proud of Nichole's contribution to advancing patient care standards and her dedication to improving outcomes for our breast cancer patients. #TexasOncology #CancerCare #BreastCancer #PatientCare #Innovation #Healthcare #Oncology #NursingExcellence #AONN

Austin resident Darrell Garza’s childhood dream was to join the military like his dad, but those hopes were crushed after losing his eyesight at six years old. After braving more than 30 eye surgeries over the years, at 24, he received a testicular cancer diagnosis. Darrell went through treatment to face his cancer, but 10 years later, the same diagnosis returned. With the help of Kyle Keyes, M.D., Texas Urology Specialists–Austin, he is once again, cancer-free. Dr. Keyes shared that testicular cancer is unique because it affects people between the ages of 15-35 years old, it’s a “disease of the young,” and encourages people to check for lumps monthly.
