关于我们
Texas Nurses Association (TNA) is a state-wide, professional association of registered nurses (RN). Founded in 1907, TNA is the oldest professional nursing organization in Texas. Its members represent all segments of nursing practice, from direct patient care to administration, consulting to advanced practice, and education to legislation. This past week was one for the books. TPAPN had the opportunity to engage with hundreds of nurses during the 2025 Nurses Day at the Capitol event and be inspired by all of our colleagues that are advocating for the profession. TPAPN was excited to exhibit at the event to engage in collaborative conversations about substance use disorder and mental health in nursing and promote #nurseshelpingnurses through peer support. Last week, nurses from across Texas gathered in Austin for the 2025 Nurse Day at the Capitol, hosted by the Texas Nurses Association. We’re proud that Tina Leyden, Diana Wagner, and Michelle Nations represented Hospice Austin, bringing their passion for compassionate end-of-life care to the conversation.

This past week we had such a fabulous time in Austin at Nurse Day at the Capitol. Over 600 Nurses from around the state came out to show support for important issues we are prioritizing with Texas Nurses Association. Professor Heidi Miller and I had the privilege to take 12 nursing students with us from UT Health San Antonio - I cannot tell you how proud I am of these students- they stepped up in big ways and spoke to legislators and staffers about nursing priorities. One of the best conversations was with Senator Jose Menendez and his staff. Thank you Alexandra Calve and Pearl Cruz for spending time with us ?? #policy #nursingpolicy #getinvolved #patientsafety #change #nurses Serena Bumpus DNP RN NEA-BC Laura Kincheloe, Ed.D., MSN, RN, NE-BC

This week, I had the opportunity to travel to our state’s capitol along with others from UT Health San Antonio to discuss important legislative priorities with Texas Legislators. It was such a rewarding experience to meet those who represent us and appraise them of issues that affect both Nurses and the patients we serve! Thank you to UT Health San Antonio and The Texas Nurses Association for this amazing opportunity! #TXNurseDay #Capitol

???From LVN to Nursing Leadership: A First-Gen Story of Impact??? Dr. Ruben Castillo DNP, RN, CCRN, NE-BC, and I share a common thread—first-generation immigrants who started as LVNs and rose through the ranks of nursing leadership. His journey is a testament to?adaptability, advocacy, and the power of work-life balance. I met him during the most recent Texas Organization Nurse Leaders conference. ???Key Takeaways from His Leadership Journey: 1???Adaptability is Everything??? Leadership demands?strategic pivots, and Ruben has mastered the art of change. From managing workforce strategies to leading as?Nursing Director - Medical Services Line at UT Southwestern Medical Center, he’s?established, developed, and opened new hospital units—a skill that requires vision, agility, and execution. 2???Mission Work-Life Balance Matters??? As leaders, we set the tone for our teams. Ruben understands that?to take care of others, we must first take care of ourselves. Rest isn’t a luxury—it’s a leadership imperative. His ability to?role model balance?ensures that his teams feel empowered to do the same. 3???Advocacy is a Responsibility??? Ruben’s dedication to?nurturing the next generation of nurses?is unwavering. His impact spans far beyond his job title—he’s been a?past president and treasurer of Texas Nurses Association District 4, piloted a?mock trial program to help nurses navigate legal challenges, and is now working on establishing a?Men in Nursing chapter in Dallas. His community involvement with?DFW Great 100 Nurses?underscores his?commitment to lifting others up. ???Ruben is a force in nursing leadership, and his story is a reminder that success is built on adaptability, advocacy, and balance.?If you're looking for inspiration, look no further.?What’s one leadership lesson that has shaped your career?
