Our Brushy Creek #longleafpine ecosystem restoration project is expected to produce 200 million gallons of water a year via infiltration! But how can a tree make water? ?? ??A healthy Longleaf pine ecosystem can “make it rain”. Trees and understory vegetation release water into the air through a process called transpiration. That added moisture can encourage rainfall and influence local weather patterns! ??Forest soils are like sponges and account for 57% of the state’s forest-water supply. ??Forests can direct rainwater to the places where it’s most needed like creeks, aquifers, and streams WHILE preventing water from flooding places like our homes and businesses. Over the next 5-10 years we are planting 100,000 longleaf pine seedlings and restoring 2000 acres of the longleaf ecosystem on Brushy Creek to accomplish these water goals and more!
