We are thrilled to announce the addition of five cardiologists to our medical group here at Texas Health Huguley Hospital. The physicians include Louis Cristol, MD, FACC, John Jayachandran, MD, FACC, FHRS, Deval Mehta, MD, Amit Prasad, MD, and Alvaro Rios, MD, FACC, FASNC. “Our mission is to ‘Extend the Healing Ministry of Christ,’” said Penny Johnson, President and CEO of Texas Health Huguley. “The opening of our new emergency department earlier this year, our pursuit of trauma level 3 status that will be official this fall, and the addition of these cardiologists are all ways that we are providing our communities with the advanced, patient-centered care they deserve.” The new cardiologists are projected to start November 1, 2024, remaining in their current office location, 209 Old Highway 1187, Burleson, Texas 76028, next to Texas Health Huguley Hospital. We are incredibly grateful to the Athena Society of Burleson for their generous donation of $15,000 to Texas Health Huguley Hospital. This significant contribution will be used to support cancer patients in Johnson County. The donation will help offset some of the financial burdens associated with a cancer diagnosis, such as medical bills, food, gas and other expenses, helping to lessen the burden on our patients during a challenging time. Texas Health Huguley performs its first Carotid Stenting: Enhancing Patient Care Carotid stenting is a vital procedure for preventing and treating strokes by addressing carotid artery disease. Today, Dr. Mehta performed a successful 42-minute carotid stenting procedure using Abbott’s XACT system, following specialized training provided by Abbott. This procedure helps keep arteries in the neck open, reducing the risk of stroke. Patients receive care either as outpatients or as part of our comprehensive emergency department services. Based on severity, some needing an overnight stay. We are proud to offer advanced vascular diagnostics and treatments at Texas Health Huguley for our community and our patients – supporting the 5% of the population at risk for carotid artery stenosis.

Yesterday, we proudly recognized three outstanding City of Burleson public servants: Newly appointed Fire Chief Casey Davis has over two decades of service in Fire and Emergency Medical Services, holding every position from Firefighter to Fire Chief. A Master Firefighter and Paramedic, he introduced Advanced Life Support (ALS) EMS services and transitioned the department to a Fire-Based EMS Transport Ambulance Service. His vision focuses on creating the finest emergency response system, prioritizing firefighter well-being, and emphasizing community dedication. Congratulations, Chief Davis, on your incredible achievements and leadership! Chief Billy Cordell has dedicated 40 years to law enforcement, retiring as a Deputy Chief with the Fort Worth Police Department and serving as Burleson’s Chief of Police since June 2014. With degrees in Criminal Justice from Texas Wesleyan University and Tarleton State University and graduation from the FBI National Academy, he is a strong advocate for community partnerships. His service includes roles with the Children’s Advocacy Center and Hill College. Congratulations, Chief Cordell, on four decades of exemplary service! Deputy Chief Doug Sandifer has served with the Burleson Police Department since 1984, starting as a reserve officer and rising to Deputy Chief. He oversees daily operations, the budget, and the hiring process and manages the Operation and Support Bureaus. With a Master Peace Officer’s certificate and a degree from Dallas Baptist University, Deputy Chief Sandifer’s dedication is commendable. Congratulations on 40 years of outstanding service!
