George Birge's rise to country fame began with the viral TikTok success of “Beer Beer, Truck Truck,” a tongue-in-cheek collaboration spinning country-pop stereotypes into a yearning ode to faraway love. More than a decade before his viral blow-up, however, Birge, BA ’10, cut his songwriting chops on the streets of Austin, performing on Sixth Street from the age of 14. Birge continued to hone his guitar prowess as an involved undergraduate on the Forty Acres. Balancing his studies with fraternity duties and a walk-on varsity golf roster spot, Birge moonlit as a solo performer, working the midnight shift at the Saxon Pub.?Learn more about Birge and his career in the Alcalde.

This past Friday, we hosted our Ring Celebration on campus. Over 1,800 students joined us on the main mall with family and friends to celebrate the special moment. Gameday fashion has gotten brighter than the floodlights and louder than the cheers in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. In the hours before kickoff, there is nowhere else to be in Austin besides Bevo Blvd. The Alcalde sent out a photographer to capture the street style at the Aug. 31, 2024, game against Colorado State.
