Today, we had the privilege of honoring fallen DPS Senior Trooper Richard Cottle with the dedication of a Tactical Marine Unit in his name. Trooper Cottle faithfully served the people of Texas before losing his life in the duty on May 9, 2001, after a four-vehicle wreck in McLennan County. It was an honor to be surrounded by Trooper Cottle’s family and friends at today’s dedication ceremony. Trooper Cottle’s memory lives on in the hearts of everyone at DPS, and this marine unit serves as a permanent, lasting symbol of his enduring legacy at the department. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13 ?? Courtesy of DPS' Central Texas Region
