With over 300,000 construction jobs unfilled, women remain an underrepresented — but growing — force in the industry. In honor of National Women in Construction Week, Skanska’s Sidney Hampton, Assistant Project Manager, and Emily Scofield, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator, share insights from their paths in nontraditional roles and advice for women considering careers in the field. ?? Insights from Sidney and Emily: ? Build your confidence — Preparation and knowledge are key to overcoming skepticism on the jobsite. ? Seek support — Mentors and colleagues can help you navigate challenges and grow. ? Advocate for yourself — Ask for what you need and ensure the culture fits your goals. ?? Hampton: “The worst they can say is no, so be your own advocate. Hone your people skills. Positive relationships drive project success.” ?? Scofield: “Explore your options and don’t be afraid that it’s a male-dominated industry. You’ll only see more and more women joining the field, and you’ll regret not taking the leap yourself.” ??
