It’s true. With a booming economy, vibrant art and culture and world-class outdoor experiences, Texas is the home of possibility and opportunity. That kind of success requires planning and hard work and that begins with an accurate census where every Texan counts. The Texas Census Institute provides independent, nonpartisan, data-driven and trusted census policy and program guidance that encourages census participation so all Texans can enjoy a great quality of life. We accomplish our mission through research, education and regional partnerships. Our vision: Texas is the best place to live and work. The Texas Census Institute grew out of the 2019 Texas Counts campaign, launched as a collaborative between Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) and Every Texan. The result was strategic, coordinated support to count every Texan in the 2020 Census and ensure the state received the funding, congressional representation and data needed to support its growing population. The Texas Census Institute will work at the state, regional, and local levels to help the decennial census (every 10 years) and the American Community Survey (ACS) (every year) improve the accuracy of their count, share best practices, develop resources and increase public awareness on the most effective ways to ensure every Texan counts. Our founding Executive Director is Angela Broyles.

????Dr Jeanine Abrams McLean, PhD, so much to learn from you and share—as we work on expanding civic participation to improve our census count through digital inclusion in South Texas! La Union Del Pueblo Entero and Texas Census Institute, and others in the Rio Grande Valley Broadband Coalition, Connect Humanity, are deeply engaged in this effort!
Dr Jeanine Abrams McLean, PhD spent years building a distinguished career as an evolutionary biologist before she became President of Fair Count — a non-partisan non-profit that focuses on community organizing to build power in historically marginalized communities. Read her interview with Chris Worman to find out what led her to this career pivot, how she came to see internet access as critical to civic engagement, and why she joined Connect Humanity's board: https://lnkd.in/eE3KWHW8 (If you don't click through for that, then at least read on to find out Jeanine's go-to Karaoke favorites ????) The West Texas counties of Brewster, Jeff Davis, Pecos, and Presidio were selected for the 2026 Census Test! Check out our most recent blog to see how this region compares to the rest of the state. https://lnkd.in/gM3j7UCw As one of the few states with an undercount, this represents an excellent opportunity for the US Census Bureau to test out strategies for reaching Texas' expansive rural population.
