TAHP is dedicated to advocating for public and private healthcare issues that improve access, value and quality of care for many Texans. We bring together industry leadership to develop answers to the critical healthcare issues in Texas through continuous communication with its members, industry and community stakeholders, as well as with representatives of the Legislature and state agencies. As the voice for health plans in Texas, TAHP strives to increase public awareness about our members’ services, health care delivery benefits and contributions to communities throughout the state.

United Mine Workers pioneered modern prior auth to address quality issues ?? Medicare/Medicaid cost challenges in 1960s expanded prior auth use ?? HMOs emerged as solution through trusted provider networks Understanding this history helps explain how we got here - and where we might go next.
