With more than 74 faculty, 800+ undergraduate students and 360 graduate students, the department is the largest civil & environmental engineering program in the country. ?? Fall Advisory Panel Meeting and Student Research Showcase Highlight Growing Participation and Innovation at CIR ?? The second annual Student Research Showcase was held at the Center for Infrastructure Renewal (CIR) Advisory Panel meeting on Friday, September 27, 2024. This year, participation saw a significant increase, with 40 students presenting 41 posters, compared to last year’s 26 students and 28 posters.? Students from various departments came together to share their research with CIR Advisory Panel (CAP) members, professors, fellow students, and TEES/TTI leadership. It was inspiring to see the impressive research being conducted within the CIR across so many different fields of study.? Greg Baker, CAP Chair, remarked, “The research showcase highlighted the Center’s ongoing research on topics relevant to current societal challenges. It was a fantastic opportunity for each student to present their work and explain how they are contributing to solving infrastructure problems. The research is impressive, and Advisory Panel members were invigorated by the level of dedication to the work.”? Following the Student Research Showcase, the bi-annual CIR Advisory Panel meeting took place. CIR Director Anand Puppala and Deputy Director Edith Arambula-Mercado briefed members on the current state of the CIR research, student outreach and other major initiatives. This CAP meeting also provides an opportunity for Advisory Panel Members to discuss and brainstorm ways to integrate CIR PIs and students and their ongoing research into real-world applications, often through partnerships with their companies for testing or internship opportunities... Aggieland is a place of growth and lasting impact. John J. DeShazo Jr. ’49 embodied the Aggie Spirit throughout his career in traffic and transportation engineering. To honor his legacy, his son Chuck DeShazo ’87 and friends established the John J. DeShazo Jr. ’49 Memorial Endowed Scholarship. John's journey from Texas A&M to becoming Amarillo’s first traffic engineer and a mentor to many reflects his dedication. Chuck, inspired by his father's legacy, hopes future Aggie engineers will be empowered to excel and embrace lifelong learning.
