The correct answer is LP Evaporator Outlet Tubes. The temperatures here are usually in a range where FAC occurs (which is centered on 150°C) and flow velocities in the two-phase fluid are often high. In addition, pH levels here can be somewhat depressed in comparison to bulk fluid if ammonia is used for pH control, where some substantial fraction is transported in the steam. This is also true for certain volatile amines. These considerations are borne out by experience, and certain OEM’s therefore use T11 material for the upper bends in these tube modules to eliminate FAC here. The HP Economizer inlet tubes are at lower risk, given that the temperatures in many HRSG designs are outside the peak FAC range because water flow velocities are relatively low. Temperatures can be in a range where FAC is a risk, this depends on source of feedwater (LP circuit or external deaerator...). The HP evaporator outlet tubes are all steam, hence no FAC risk. The HPECO outlet tubes are at low risk in that temperatures are above the FAC range in most large HRSG’s (typically >250°C), and flow velocities are low, similar to that of the HPECO inlet tubes. The above answers are valid for a “generic” large modern HRSG design with typical process conditions. It is important to note that actual risks for a given HRSG need to be assessed using the detailed design configuration and process conditions as inputs. #tetraengineering #corrosion #hrsg
