Last week before #Kubecon, we hosted a special event with our friends at the 309th Software Engineering Group (SWEG)—Hill AFB and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). It was AWESOME! When we realized that #kubecon was going to be in Salt Lake City, we instantly wanted to create a way to bring the experts in the #CNCF community to our friends at Hill Air Force Base and Weber State University. We wanted to do a small conference focused on open source software -- but, with the twist to help solve government needs without being a sales pitch. Matt “Mohawk” Denny instantly started working with Jessica Collyer Pantle, and later Enos Cummings, to put something together that would bridge the gap between Air Force software experts and industry software experts. This idea became "Mission Impact: Open Source Unleashed," with 100+ government folks and over 30 experts from across the #opensource and software/tech industry. As Jessica said, "it was pure magic! The speakers were on point and had great applicability to our mission at the SWEG." Special thanks to everyone who volunteered your time to speak. We had amazing talks from Ihor Dubovetskyi, John Kjell, Justin Cormack, Cole Kennedy ?? ??, Frederick Kautz, Eddie Zaneski, Enos Cummings, and William Crum. Also a huge thanks to all the companies and organizations that enabled their awesome folks to speak, attend and support: Weber State University, Docker, Inc, The Linux Foundation, Defense Unicorns, Lockheed Martin, Purdue University, New York University, Marine Innovation Unit, Spectro Cloud, simplyblock and others we may have forgotten. Lastly a special thanks to our partners at CNCF like Taylor D., Katie Greenley, Priyanka Sharma and others who donated their time and resources to make this event even more awesome. Before we started #kubecon + #cloudnativecon, our team went up to Weber State University today to chat with the computer science program and was able to share our experience and knowledge with 20+ students. We had conversations around #opensource, #devsecops, #marketing and branding, software development, #cybersecurity and more. Thanks to everyone who joined us and special thanks to the professors at #weberstate who hosted us and sent their students over to todays information session.
