The latest high-end motors must run faster and faster in order to deliver peak performance. To achieve this, the rotor design must be optimized to the maximum.?? Therefore, it is essential to identify the weak points of the rotor. As explained in our prior video on rotor bursting, we are able to accelerate rotors far beyond their normal operating speed until they burst. The result is the maximum speed that the rotor was able to withstand. But what exactly can cause a rotor to fail???? ? To answer this, we need to film the rotor with a high-speed camera in slow motion at this specific moment of bursting, so that we can identify the exact location of a crack. What sounds so easy is actually extremely challenging - the burst happens in a fraction of a millisecond.? ? Our expert Peter Hintenlang from our spin testing team here at Schenck in Darmstadt shows you one of these exciting bursting attempts today.? ? Burst tests and more will be performed at our new Green Technology Center. Do you want to know how fast your rotor can go before mass production? Get in touch! Our experts will gladly support you!??? ? Impellerdesign by JCL plant solutions? ? #Schenck #balancing #SpinTestingMinute #GreenTechnologyCenter #EnableGreenInnovation #Highspeed?

In aviation, unbalances pose a serious risk. When vibrations cause issues in the electronics or even in the vehicle’s structure, the consequences can be severe. A fatigue fracture on four wheels and on the road may have minor outcomes, but in the air, the situation is quite different... This is the challenge currently facing e-aircraft and eVTOLs ("electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft"). As we’ll be highlighting at the Electric & Hybrid Aerospace Technology Symposium on October 30th and 31st in Frankfurt, e-motors and their rotors, are exposed to extremely high centrifugal forces due to their high rotational speeds. To ensure that everything "runs smoothly," it’s best to involve our (balancing) experts right from the development stage of electric drives. Balancing begins at the moment of design! This way, the required processes can be considered in the construction of the rotating components. We can already estimate the potential unbalances in manufacturing during the drawing stage using geometric tolerancing. Once the first prototypes are produced, we test them at operating speed, overspeed, and maximum burst speed. For example, settlement effects due to weight-optimized designs can be measured, without the drive (e.g., the stators and control systems) even needing to be fully operational yet. Our Green Technology Center offers the perfect testing environment, along with the appropriate rotor fixtures for the balancing process and a specially developed mechanism to precisely and repeatably connect the shaft to the rotor. This allows us to replicate all procedures and results accurately and consistently! Questions about rotor development and prototyping? Visit us at Booth 158 at the Aerospace Symposium in Frankfurt or send us a direct message to connect directly with our experts Ralf Oftring, Thorsten Butzke and Daniel Klug! #Schenck #balancing #EHATS #Aerospace #evtol #sustainability #mobility #aviation
