Loading equipment is often a time-consuming and labor-intensive task, and the need for an efficient solution has become more critical than ever. To address this challenge, the Compact Loading Adapter and Winch System (CLAWS) team (CMSgt Travis Chaney, MSgt Khalil Bashir, TSgt Joshua Roger, SSgt Brett Doyle) developed a solution that eliminates the need for heavy machinery, reduces loading times, and offers significant cost savings. By adapting and collaborating with the Navy’s winch technology, CLAWS benefits include shared functionalities and flexibility. In addition, the system cuts 9,000 pounds of equipment weight and eliminates the need for 21 personnel typically required for loading in austere environments, resulting in reduced transportation costs and a smaller equipment footprint. Designed for easy transport on AC-130s and other large aircraft, CLAWS offers versatility across a range of operational scenarios.??? Recent project milestones include: ?? Secured $40k in funding for prototype development ?? Received an additional $260K in funding from Tesseract ?? Partnered with AFWERX Refinery and SOFWERX foundry for testing and refinement ?? Gained approval for Air Force requirements development ?? ?? Meet Our LNO: MSgt Dakota Belcher ?? MSgt Dakota Belcher is the AFWERX Spark Cell Coordinator at Luke AFB, with a background in Aircraft Fuel Systems. Dakota became an LNO with a simple goal: to help Airmen solve their problems more efficiently. Having faced frustrating processes early in his career, he wanted to alleviate those struggles for others. Dakota enjoys guiding Airmen through various problem-solving approaches, helping them find the best solutions. A memorable experience for him was attending Liberating Structures training and applying those tools with the Tesseract crew and Airmen across the force. “I believe the biggest impact I’ve made is changing people’s mindset—seeing ‘problems’ as ‘opportunities’ to make a positive impact.” His advice for future LNOs? Tesseract recently had a wonderful opportunity connecting with the Royal Air Force at the RAF Engineering Conference in the UK, where we exchanged ideas on strategic initiatives, logistics innovation, and ways to enhance operational efficiencies. In addition, we led a hands-on Theory of Constraints (ToC) workshop with 10 RAF innovation office members, providing valuable insights into how ToC can improve maintenance and logistics operations. Our team -- CMSgt Greg Beck, SMSgt Amanda Dennis, TSgt Pablo de la Cruz, Mr. Jake Dolinger -- along with Lt. Col. Joshua Downing from the Advanced Concepts team at A4LM, showcased ongoing efforts to drive innovation in Air Force logistics in front of 150 people at the largest gathering of RAF Aircraft Maintainers at RAF Cosford. As the RAF looks to further develop infrastructure and grow a strong culture of innovation, the conference provided a unique platform to share our perspectives and the evolving challenges and opportunities. We concluded the two-day visit with a formal dinner hosted by the RAF and set the stage for continued collaboration. Tesseract looks forward to sharing case studies, inviting RAF members to our ToC Summit and courses, and exploring future engagement opportunities!??? This week, we're highlighting?Project Weapon, a custom adapter cable designed to connect to an Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) turbine generator power outlet. It provides power to the Armament Stores System Tester (SST), which enables efficient testing of weapon pylons. ?? For Armament teams deployed abroad, this innovation eliminates the need to configure multiple pieces of equipment to power the SST, reducing over 50% of the Armament footprint during deployment. This allows for streamlined operations and also saves the DoD thousands of dollars annually across all F-16 Armament teams conducting weapon pylon tests. ???????????? ????????????????: The Project Weapon team has recently collaborated with industry partners to source additional components for the next prototype and has filed patent paperwork. In addition, the team has partnered with AFLCMC/WNA (Automatic Test Systems) to test several Armament SSTs and gather user feedback, which will take place at Nellis AFB. Kris first learned about Tesseract during a Staff Assisted Visit (SAV) when another LNO shared how she was addressing concerns in their career field. Inspired by her efforts, Kris decided to join the LNO network to help make a difference. As an LNO, Kris is proud to be a part of the Tesseract podcast and has taken on the role of facilitator.
