This week, I attended the Energy Disruptors Unite 2024. I have attended every year since inception. After a conference, I don't usually feel compelled to do much more than follow up with new connections, and possibly write an internal memo summarizing my thoughts. But this... this is different. At this year's #EDU2024, I witnessed something special. I witnessed the true expression of our global energy challenges, all in one place, in a serious, sophisticated, but also fun and emotional and meaningful celebration of intellectual honesty. Having been through all the EDUs, I have the perspective of watching the event itself grow up. It has progressed from its funky and sassy adolescent beginnings to a bold and sophisticated and intellectually daring young adult. In a certain way, I miss those teenage years, in all their kookiness and rawness. But also, I am proud and accepting of the new adulthood that has taken their place. I have huge respect and mad love for Graeme Edge and Michelle Edge, the maestros behind this tour de force. I have studied the global energy system all day, everyday, for 20 years, and I can honestly say, I learned something about energy this week. This is the kind of energy we all need if we're going to be honest about the challenges that we face as a civilization. This. Is. The. Real. Thing.

Kudos to Benoit Guimont and Patrick McBride for taking on exciting #L3Harris technical developments at the Canadian Nuclear Society‘s #G4SR5 conference yesterday (4 October). Ben characterized the challenges and successes in our first-of-a-kind, high-fidelity #simulation of a #MSR, namely Terrestrial Energy‘s Integral Molten Salt Reactor (#IMSR). The project was hugely successful and the foundational #model changes allow us to simulate any MSR. Next up, imagine a digital equivalent of the entire #nuclearplant (#3D #DigitalTwin) that is #integrated with the #training #simulator such that the 100% #virtualplant works and responds to simulator commands, and local operator actions are fed back to the simulator. Pat demonstrated that there is no need to imagine it - it’s been done! The initial vision and the team’s incredible work unlocked #unified #teams #training allowing main control room operators to fully practice drills with all other plant stakeholders (local operators, RP technicians, maintainers, the fire team, etc.).
