关于我们
TerraFrame delivers decision support, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and data management software, designed to operate in challenging, remote, and off-line environments. TerraFrame’s products are ideal for projects in developing nations where monitoring and evaluation are critical. Our comprehensive approach to providing real-time data analytics is also ideal for gaining essential insight into virtually any field of industry or services; the ability to instantly know the who, what , where, and when. Know the current status of staff engagement, inventory logistics, and recorded outcomes of treatments or services provided. In order to obtain the whole picture of development efforts in the field and make better decisions, you often need to obtain data located in existing systems that do not talk to each other and have incompatible data formats. The open source Runway GeoDashboardtm platform from TerraFrametm is designed to analyze, correlate, and visualize data from multiple systems such as DHIS2, Salesforce.com, and any other system with industry standard integration interfaces such as OpenMRS using SDMX. Now organizations operating globally can quickly obtain real-time and accurate reports, charts, and maps for all country programs. Funding organizations can now provide recipient organi?zations with the decision support software tools necessary to maximize their effectiveness. Recipients will no longer need to waste months of effort aggregating clumsy spreadsheets to produce quarterly and yearly status reports to their funders. Such reports are fraught with error and quickly become obsolete.

Location and time are dimensions that bind information together. GeoPrism Registry uses semantic technologies to enable data and information from multiple organizations to be properly contextualized in both space and time to support geographically based planning, decision making, cooperation and coordination among agencies of federal governments, local governments, non-profits, and the private sector. Collaboration across sectors is needed to promote public health, economic development, environmental protection, flood zone research, disaster recovery, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and other public and private services.

Apache Iceberg and Parquet now support 'Geo' formats! This is an exciting development for the geospatial sector, and it particularly highlights the continued innovation in cloud-native table formats, especially Iceberg. These open standards have been a game changer in the data ecosystem, breaking down the walled gardens created by major platform providers. The data ecosystem has long suffered from a fundamental disconnect: while software engineering practices have matured with robust version control, dependency management, and collaboration tools, data management remains fragmented and platform-dependent. We'd never fork a codebase without proper version control, yet duplicating datasets across systems is standard practice. While dependency management is streamlined in software development, tracking lineage across datasets built through complex data pipelines remains a persistent challenge. Major platform providers have capitalized on these gaps, creating walled gardens where advanced features like lineage tracking, access controls, and performance optimizations are tied exclusively to their infrastructure. The data marketplaces hosted by these platforms also favor consumers and the platform itself, with little innovation benefiting data owners. These owners lack the telemetry needed to implement alternative revenue models—there's no direct equivalent of API metering in the data world—beyond flat pricing. Cloud-native formats are changing this paradigm.?By storing data in an open format, you can seamlessly use different compute engines—Spark, DuckDB, Flint, Trino, Dremio, or others—without loading data into proprietary storage. This approach eliminates vendor lock-in, removes data duplication, preserves a single source of truth, and enables selecting the ideal execution engine for each workload, delivering both high performance and genuine portability. This transformation is particularly significant for small and medium-sized companies, allowing them to choose from a broader set of platform-agnostic tools. At Foursquare, we have innovated with organizations like Astronomer, Acryl Data, and Privacera to create an interoperable data ecosystem unconstrained by the technical limitations or business interests of major platform providers. We are hoping to bring some of these innovations to the broader geospatial sector very soon. Special mention to Chris Holmes, Jia Yu and Jed Sundwall for all their efforts in creating an open geospatial ecosystem.

Source Cooperative can use your help. Last week, Harvard's Library Innovation Lab announced that it had published over 311,000 federal datasets from data.gov on Source Cooperative, our data publishing utility. The announcement was covered in Reuters ("Harvard law library acts to preserve government data amid sweeping purges") and reached the front page of Hacker News, driving our daily site traffic up by 1,764%. The bad news here is obvious: government data resources used by people all over the world are at risk, and it's time to prepare for a future in which research budgets are more constrained and less reliant on government funding. The silver lining is that we built Source as a neutral, independent, and nonprofit data publishing utility precisely to prepare for this scenario. While still in beta, Source now hosts over 600 terabytes of data. In addition to the data.gov archive, we host NASA AI training datasets, the world's largest collection of AI-ready satellite imagery, the largest known corpus of agricultural field boundaries, and the most comprehensive dataset of building footprints ever assembled. Last week alone, we served over 17 million data requests and transferred 110 terabytes from our service. This is typically when someone in my position says we need your help to keep up with demand during this time of crisis. The truth is that we don’t need help keeping up with demand because we're very good at building data sharing infrastructure. All of our systems scaled effortlessly last week. We *do* need help taking Source to the next level – taking it out of beta and turning it into a durable institution that can serve the global community of researchers, entrepreneurs, and analysts who need reliable access to trustworthy data more than ever. We're a small nonprofit (just three full-time staff), supported by a team of contractors and fellows that include veteran developers from Google, AWS, and Hugging Face. We've proven we can provide massive-scale infrastructure with a small team and lean budget. We're seeking grant funding to scale our impact across three areas: 1. Feature Development: Supporting engineers and designers to enhance performance, usability, multi-cloud capabilities, and security 2. Education & Outreach: Staff to support new users, creating better training content and improving user experience for non-technical users 3. Business Model Development: Planning our path to financial sustainability through proper legal structure and revenue model development If you are in a position to fund infrastructure to make trustworthy data reliably available to solve global challenges, please contact me at [email protected] #OpenData #DataScience #Research #Innovation #Nonprofit
