Humans are a part of nature — so restoring our forests is about more than just planting trees. Rebuilding an ecosystem sustainably means addressing the needs of the human communities that coexist with the forest — such as shelter, food, and safety. In the Philippines, Terraformation is embarking on an ambitious new restoration project in partnership with CCCO2, a Philippine reforestation and conservation company founded in 2018. As the biodiverse forest is restored to this former colonial cattle ranch, agroforestry will enable the local Indigenous communities to grow native crops like cocoa, hemp, and millet. A few facts about this project: ? 1,000 hectares, with 12,000 hectare expansion potential ? 508,000 tonnes of CO2 sequestered over 40 years ? Environmental co-benefits include improved water quality, reduced risk of wildfires, and enhanced erosion and flood control ? Agroforestry areas will integrate crops of cocoa, hemp, and adlai (millet)? ? Equal employment opportunities, including for women in leadership positions ? We're excited to begin the restoration of this beautiful mountain region. As wildfires grow more frequent and severe due to climate change, proactive fire prevention has never been more critical. That’s why we’re piloting Dryad Networks’ Silvanet technology at our Pacific Flight at Kaupalaoa site in Kohala, Hawai‘i—a high-risk area known for its dry, windy conditions. Spanning 45 acres, Kaupalaoa is where we're restoring a dryland forest, removing invasive species like buffelgrass and kiawe, and planting over 22 native species. With under 10 inches of rainfall annually, it's the perfect place to test this advanced early wildfire detection system. Silvanet's AI-powered tech constantly monitors changes in temperature, humidity, and air quality, allowing us to detect and respond to potential fire risks before they spread. Why does this matter? Early detection isn’t just about protecting land—it’s about preserving Hawai‘i’s unique biodiversity. Home to over 10,000 species found nowhere else, Hawai‘i’s delicate ecosystems are constantly threatened by fire, invasive species, and human activity. By preventing wildfires, we’re helping to protect these precious habitats and safeguard the islands’ rich biodiversity for future generations. ?? Learn more at our blog:?https://refore.st/3CD9Bc5

At #COP29, Terraformation's Damien Kuhn and Zara Huseynova were honored to meet with Dunstan Kitandula, Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism in Tanzania. At the "Financing Tanzania's Landscape Restoration" discussion with Tanzania Forestry Services Representative Elikana John, topics included Tanzania's long-term vision for forest restoration, the role of trust in developing projects, and how governments and the private sector can collaborate more effectively to streamline project implementation. We're excited for the future of forest restoration throughout Africa — working together to create new opportunities that benefit communities and our climate.

We're honored to receive a $200,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to collaborate on a native-species seed bank on the Hawaiian island of Lāna?i. The project will help restore coastal ecosystems degraded by decades of overgrazing and plantation agriculture. Part of NFWF's Kuahiwi a Kai Program, which?focuses on conserving Lāna’i’s natural and cultural resources, the initiative aims to collect and store native seeds to prevent genetic loss and promote climate resilience. Terraformation’s expertise in seed banking, nursery management, and restoration will play a key role in the project's implementation. Community engagement and shared stewardship are integral to the Kuahiwi a Kai Program — and to the values at the core of every Terraformation project. We're excited to begin this work to help restore Lāna?i and preserve its priceless natural and cultural heritage. Learn more: https://refore.st/3Z0eun9

Sembrando Futuro 2.0, a new reforestation partnership by Fundación Grupo Argos and Terraformation, will sequester almost 400K tonnes of CO2 — but its benefits don't end there. It will expand and connect native forests, enrich the resilience of the region, and protect Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs). Jaguars, hummingbirds, rare orchids — hundreds of unique species depend on the Colombian Andes for survival. But with only a third of the area's natural forests remaining, ecological restoration is urgently needed. Thank you Singapore for a terrific Asia premiere!?The energy at the screening was curious, active, productive and pragmatic.??Pauline Wray pulled together stakeholders who can really take action and it was encouraging given that the films we make are for those very people in the audience. As I mentioned in the Q+A, our films are frameworks that outline pathways to a future that can work.?I loved meeting everyone including our supporters of the event, Michael Harte and Adrian Grante of CaptureNow and Huey Lin of Terraformation. Also a big thanks to Ed Iskandar who is the BEST moderator in the WORLD…he cares and really helps propel good conversation.??The Q+A panel afterward was with Hui En Joanna Yeo, Max Zeller and Christoph Gebald.?I very much appreciated the feedback from Severine Vauleon and Mouna Aouri and also very interesting panel discussions at Insight Forum with Andrey Berdichevskiy (白安哲), thanks for attending! We will return most likely in the future for another screening and further discussions around CDR.?Looking forward to what develops! #cdr #innovation Legion 44
