In honor of World Mental Health Day, we asked a few of our BIRDS@Work interns what their favorite part about our internship program is, or how it helps with their mental health. Research shows that green schoolyards can enhance children's physical and mental health and academic performance, as well as community health and well-being. Mental health plays a critical role in the cognitive, emotional, and social development of children and youth. #greenschoolyards #terrabirds #youthgardening #worldmentalhealthday

Sincerest of thank-yous to the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation & Sprouts Farmers Market from Terra BIRDS and our PHS students & BIRDS@Work interns for funding in support of the Ponderosa High School Greenhouse & Garden. This contribution will help us educate and inspire local youth to act as stewards of their school grounds through our various programs. Amidst a plentiful harvest on Wednesday, our youth interns were excited to hear about this generous grant that will support their school garden ??

Last week, we had the opportunity to join many nonprofits and the Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff to celebrate the annual grant awards and our community! Terra BIRDS is grateful for funding for our School Garden Program from the Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff, Capstone Health Fund, Ernest & Evelyn Chilson Fund, GeoFund, Geile Charitable Fund, and McClanahan Family Fund. They provide support and expertise to the many organizations in Flagstaff that are working to solve a wide range of issues or who are enriching our town with music, art, and activities. Without them, Flagstaff would be a much different place. Join us next Wednesday for a "Compost Pickup Afternoon" at the Ponderosa High School Greenhouse! If you are a teacher, staff, or parent helping with or running a school supported garden or community youth garden, you're eligible to pick up some compost. A huge thank you to Restoration Soils & The City of Flagstaff's Sustainability Office for their grant-funded support helping us make this available to school communities, and to Coconino County Education Service Agency for their continued support towards our work with school gardening.
