Last week, our Murihiku team had the privilege of attending the opening of the new Kī-o-Rahi field at Te Wharekura o Arowhenua. In recognising Taonga Tākaro as a powerful way to strengthen connections to te ao Māori, our rangatahi funding panel Te ōhaka Tīwhera was proud to support the vision of the kura and help bring this field to life. Ngā mihi nui to everyone involved in making this happen. Last Friday we had the honour of hosting the Ember Innovations team in our One New Zealand event centre, The Arena. As a funder and outside of direct funding, we can at times also support organisations in providing this amazing space at the One New Zealand Smales Farm Support Office. The event was attended by funders, researchers, and innovators with the day dedicated to innovation, inspiration, and celebration within Mental Health as a key focus area! ??Unconference magic?– Shaping conversation in real-time with fellow researchers, innovators, and changemakers in the world of?mental health inn. ???Sharp insights?– We heard from thought leaders at the cutting edge of innovation and social impact. ???Whakanuia/celebration?– We came together to honour a milestone: reaching?$1 million in?mental health innovation?research! It was great collaborating with and supporting Anya Satyanand and Tatiana Strudwick to deliver the organisations important kaupapa. We wanted to thank our amazing facilities team for their manaakitanga and tautoko pre and during the event and contributing to making this event a success. Also special mihi to our local kura Westlake Boys High School whose boys came to the event to tautoko Our One New Zealand interns joined the event for the day which also happened to be the last day of their internships. It was great to get insight and feedback as they also spent some time with our Head of Foundation who imparted his final words of wisdom, during the day. A great day filled with great kaupapa! Last night, we had the privilege of attending the Tupu Toa Gala Annual Event alongside our One New Zealand Tupu Toa interns, who will be concluding their internships with us next week. They were joined by their leaders and some of our people team. We were honored to also have guests from Foundation North, Ministry of Social Development, VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai, Simplicity, and Community Builders Trust join us. Thank you for joining us! The evening was a celebration of ambition, resilience, and success, featuring inspiring stories of personal and professional growth. We extend our congratulations to the interns who shared their journeys and to those who have secured roles with their host organisations. Tupu Toa plays a vital role in fostering Māori and Pasifika leadership by providing structured development, mentorship, support and coaching. We are proud to support a program that empowers future leaders and equips them with the skills and opportunities to succeed. Last night we attended the Rangatahi (Young People) Māori Fund awards and acknowledgement evening in Invercargill. The responsibility, accountability and courage these rangatahi have had to deliver and “be” in this rangatahi led model and kaupapa was awe inspiring. They stood in their mana and acknowledged each and every kaupapa/initiative for the commitment they gave to their various areas of support and to the community! Ka rawe! Well done! But also how about our team in Invercargill that have been on the journey with our rangatahi, that have guided, mentored and coached them. Very proud moment/s for them! Today, the team got to host our One New Zealand interns who are into week 3 of 6 of their internship. We got to share with them about who we, Te Rourou One Aotearoa Foundation are, what we do and as a bonus had our awesome team up from Invercargill who got to share their stories, experiences in the sector and talk about their important and valuable mahi and kaupapa they support and deliver in the region. We hosted them in the corporate boardroom where we sat them a challenge that aligned with their current project around “partnership” that they had to brainstorm, discuss and build a case study for in 10 minutes!!! Let’s just say, the future is bright with these stars!!! What a great day for everyone!
