Data Dazzle: This analysis is a 3D visualization of the potential threats posed to road infrastructure by adjacent hill slopes in North Carolina pre- and post-Helene. The bold lines are roads. Zones/roads in red are at highest risk of landslides and debris flows. This model was generated using #LiDAR data and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) post-Helene identified landslides in combination with Teren's proprietary #terrain, #climate, #soil, and #hydrology models that were rapidly processed and analyzed in the Terescale high-performance computing engine. The results are part of a study to improve risk mitigation and resilience for transportation infrastructure in future high-rainfall events like #HurricaneHelene. Teren recently had the privilege of participating with Bill Haneberg and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company Geosciences team to continue work on the Teren-PG&E model in support of PG&E’s debris flow assessment program. Positive initial results show a significant reduction of calculated risk compared to earlier models when implementing high-resolution modeling. Data Dazzle: This analysis is a 3D visualization of #geohazard changes over time. The image on the left shows two geohazards delineated during the Spring near a pipeline. The image to the right is from the following Fall; the two geohazards grew and merged into one that now encompasses and poses increasing threat to the pipeline. These simulations are generated from high-resolution #LiDAR data rapidly processed and analyzed in Teren's Terescale high-performance computing engine.
