We were honored to have Special Olympics Colorado join us at Tepeyac to train our dental and medical providers on how to better serve individuals with #IntellectualDisabilities. Trainings like these are invaluable to our team because they help us understand how to care for the community in a way that makes them feel safe and heard. When health professionals are unprepared to treat a person with intellectual disabilities, it often leads to misunderstandings and delayed treatment. Since 1995, Tepeyac Community Health Center has been responding to the need for accessible, culturally responsive health services for underserved, primarily Spanish-speaking community members in the metro Denver area. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Tepeyac’s overall strategy is to integrate multidisciplinary evidence-based programs that work together to improve patient health. All services are affordable and delivered with a high level of cultural responsiveness for Spanish-speaking community members.
