Remember your "Why". Why you accepted that job. Why you went on that trip. Why you wake up in the morning. I'm not just talking about earning to make a living, that's a consequence of our "why", a very essential one of course, ever more in today's economic climate. There will inevitably be days where we put in question why we do what we do, and may feel demotivated, lost, frustrated, what ever words best fit that feeling we have all experienced at some point in life. In those trying times, that's when more than ever it's essential to remember our "why", which can act as our guiding light to get us back on our course, in life, both personal and professional. Call it morals, beliefs, founding principals, we as humanity as a whole and especially individually, need a purpose in life, our "why". This differs from each of us, from family orientated, relationship centric, career driven, and for many this could be a complex mix of a lot of things. Our "why" is the glue holding our sanity together in the good times and even more in the bad times. Having spent over half my life in a country where having electricity was far from taken for granted, I can appreciate how essential it is to have energy independence. Something that most third world countries, although they may strive towards achieving it through renewable energy sources, can seldom afford the luxury of choice towards their energy mix to power the country. Fortunately, the UK does not face mass electricity shortages and is in a position where it can afford itself the privilege to assume the moral responsibility of how we generate our electricity, striving to shift towards more renewable forms of energy generation. Today I had the opportunity to remind myself first hand about one of my "why's". Working towards building a cleaner and more sustainable world we live in, through the acceleration of renewable energy project development. I visited a solar project at the very beginning of construction, which myself and the rest of our brilliant team have been involved with, seeing first hand the sneak peak of the solar farm that will soon be there, generating clean green electricity, helping decarbonise our planet whilst providing jobs in the process and energy security for the UK. Thank you Anesco Ltd for the invite today and for the great collaboration on this project, to which I look forward to when it will be operational. "In unity there is energy". Our Board meeting was followed by the XVII #PanamgeoChile2024, which was a resounding success! Huge congratulations ?? to the magnificent organising committee for delivering a world-class #GeoCongress, which was the largest #GeoConference to ever take place in Chile ????, showcased 344 papers of highest quality and brought together an impressive 761 esteemed #GeoProfessionals from all over the world ?? attending, presenting and debating our greatest advances in #GeoEngineering from the latest state-of-the-art research to the most advanced state-of-practise, while paving the way for promising collaborations between Government, Practitioners and Academia in the #Americas and the rest of the world ??! ?? Super delighted to see that 46% of the attendees were less than 34 years of age, and more than half of them were undergraduate students & postgraduate researchers with their conference attendance fully sponsored by the Chilean Geotechnical Society!! What a fabulous way to inspire and invest in our future #GeoEngineers and a great example for us all to follow!! ???? ?? Time to roll out the red carpet! Or in this case….the White Geogrid! This trucking facility had poorly compacted aggregate above their newly installed sewer line leading to some huge sinkholes. Luckily, Tensar NX750 geogrid is a perfect fix! Can’t wait to see the final result on this one. Big thanks to our friends at Tensar, a division of CMC for helping us get material on site so quickly!
