I am thrilled to share that the City of Opa-locka has officially passed Resolution No. 25-021, reaffirming its commitment to becoming the permanent home of the Florida Museum of Black History and designating Historic Opa-locka City Hall as the interim site for exhibitions and programming. This is a significant step forward in preserving and celebrating the rich contributions of Black history in Florida and beyond. The support from Miami-Dade County, local leaders, and cultural advocates has been instrumental in advancing this vision. As the legislative session approaches, this milestone strengthens Opa-locka’s case as the ideal home for this cultural institution. We are grateful for the leadership of Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III, Danielle Cohen Higgins, Esq. , and all those championing this effort. This museum will be more than just a space—it will be a place of education, culture, and economic empowerment for generations to come. Santiago, during the City of Opa-locka’s swearing-in ceremony. ? Also, Minister Joseph Isaiah Kelly, along with First Lady Tangela R. Kelly, had the privilege of swearing in Joseph L. Kelly. We are proud to share that Board Member Nikisha Williams served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event, making it a truly memorable occasion. This moment marks a proud chapter in our ongoing relationship with the City of Opa-locka. We congratulate the new officials as they step into their roles with dedication and commitment to the community. ??
