?? The Sam Davis Oak??
Standing proudly on the grounds of the Historic Sam Davis Home and Plantation in Smyrna, Tennessee, this large oak tree holds a strong connection to the past. It is said that Sam Davis, a Confederate soldier and member of the Coleman Scouts, tied his horse to one of its limbs on the night of November 14, 1863, during his final visit home.
Just days later, on November 20, 1863, Davis was captured while carrying vital information about Union troop movements. Accused of being a spy, he was sentenced to hang—a fate he met on November 27, 1863, at just 21 years old.
Today, the Sam Davis Oak continues to stand as a silent witness to the past. Visitors to the Sam Davis Home, now a 168-acre historic site, can walk the same grounds and see this enduring symbol of history. ????
