  • TPMA Honors Black History Month 🗓 Featuring Lawrence Burns, DPM! Dr. Burns is a board-certified podiatrist and Associate Professor at Meharry Medical College’s Department of Family and Community Medicine and recently graduated from the Climate and Health Equity Fellowship in Washington, D.C. on December 14, 2024. This one-year fellowship, sponsored by the National Medical Association (NMA) and George Mason University’s Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health, empowers doctors of color—particularly those from communities disproportionately affected by climate impacts—to become leaders in climate and health equity education, advocacy, and policy. Dr. Burns joined eight other doctors from across the U.S. in the 2024 fellowship, where he focused his capstone research on how climate change and pollution increase the risk of amputations. As the first Meharry faculty member to complete this prestigious program since it began in 2021, Dr. Burns is paving the way for others to explore the critical intersection of climate and health equity. Great work Dr. Burns – TPMA thanks you for your contributions in supporting underprivileged communities. #blackhistorymonth #podiatryschool #blackhistory #footandankle #honorblackhistory

  • Introducing TPMA's new series - Wellness Wednesday! 🍎🩺☀ Each month, TPMA will share wellness tips that relate to overall foot & ankle health. 👣 Tip #1: What you eat impacts your entire body, including your feet and ankles. Calcium and vitamin D are crucial for maintaining strong bones. If your calcium and vitamin D levels are low, you're more prone to stress fractures and ankle injuries. Including calcium-rich foods, such as dairy products and leafy greens, in your diet can help keep your feet and ankle bones strong and healthy. Please feel free to share TPMA's #wellnesswednesday facts with patients, friends, or colleagues! #footanklehealth #podiatry
