We are thrilled to announce that Tennessee Environmental Council has won the 2024 Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award in the category of "Environmental Education & Outreach" for our Recycling Roundups! This award celebrates TEC's first 10 roundups that resulted in more than 233,000 pounds of materials recycled in communities across Tennessee in 2023.
Thanks to our Recycle Tennessee Program Director, Abby Schneider, and her support staff, including Recycling Roundup Assistant, Ginger Reasonover (and more recently Recycle Tennessee Program Coordinator, Rebekah Garrett, and Recycling Roundup Program Assistant, Camila Palmer) for building our Recycling Roundup events and leading the effort into an award-winning program.
Our success is only possible with some key ingredients; the grant from EPA, the hundreds of volunteers who have assisted at the events, program partners (including S3 Recycling Solutions, Tennessee Recycling Coalition, and TDEC), and all the people of Tennessee who cleaned up, drove through, and dropped off.
We are so grateful for this honor and will continue to serve the great state of Tennessee in our mission to help people and communities improve our environment! We are organizing 35 more roundups in the next 3 years (including six this fall).
