This Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful for the hundreds of TDOT employees who have put in tens of thousands of manhours into recovery efforts in East Tennessee. While work remains, we are thankful for every reopened road and bridge that’s connecting families this year. #mytdot #helenerecovery #thanksgiving #gratitude

The Department of Transportation provides citizens of Tennessee and travelers with one of the best transportation systems in the country. TDOT consistently wins awards for its projects, highway design and for its innovative approach to transportation. Since 1998, Tennessee was voted as having one of the top five highway systems in the country by a national trade magazine. TDOT is a multimodal agency with responsibilities in aviation, public transit, waterways and railroads. Our involvement ranges from airport improvements to funding transit buses to planning for river ports. The Department of Transportation has approximately 3,900 employees with four statewide region facilities in Jackson, Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville. TDOT's P3 team is working to reach all communities impacted by the proposed Choice Lanes Project. Last week they held a Faith-Leader Summit in Antioch, inviting leaders across different communities and faiths to share information about the project with their congregations and neighborhoods. Thank you to our panelists (Representative Harold Love Jr., Senior Advisor to the Governor John DeBerry and Executive Director of the Governor’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative Lance Villio) who took questions and discussed the importance of bridging the gap between government and faith-based communities.

It is Crash Responder Safety week, and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) HELP Truck drivers are often the first to respond to incidents on our state’s busiest roadways to minimize traffic congestion and the risk of secondary crashes with safe, quick clearance.?Unfortunately, they frequently become the victim of a crash themselves. So far this year, 20 HELP Trucks have been hit with significant damage and five HELP Operators have been injured.?If you see them on the road, we ask that you move over and slow down.

On Veterans Day, and every day, we honor those who’ve served in the United States Armed Forces. Among the services offered to veterans by the state of Tennessee, TDOT has set aside a special parking space for veterans at certain Welcome Center & Rest Areas across the state. These were recently unveiled at the I-75 Welcome Center near the TN/GA line and the I-65 Welcome Center near the TN/AL line. We hope it will make veterans’ travel just a little bit easier. #mytdot #veteransday #honoringveterans
