Located on the banks of the Tennessee River in Chattanooga and surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains, the Tennessee Aquarium tells the story of the river – following the path of a raindrop from the streams of an Appalachian Forest to the Gulf of Mexico – from the mountains to the sea. Although the Aquarium has grown in size and in animal population since it’s opening in 1992, its story and its mission as a private, non-profit institution have remained the same; ‘to inspire wonder, appreciation and protection of water and all life that it sustains.’

It was a fantastic fall day to release another class of Lake Sturgeon in the Tennessee River in Downtown Chattanooga. Our conservation scientists, who raised the baby sturgeon, had some great helpers. Fifth graders from Brown Academy were eager to see these fish and participate in a conservation effort that's restoring a state-endangered species. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/erBUjBGg

Heat waves are common in July and August, but triple-digit heat in Chattanooga is rare. Typically, we only see 100F+ temps when the ground and air are dry. Air quality and heat-related illnesses are important concerns for humans, but the impact on watersheds threatens aquatic life. That's why our conservation scientists have traveled twice to Walden Ridge recently to rescue Laurel Dace (an endangered species) from streams that are nearly bone-dry.
