Our lab members have been hard at work this semester with a lot of new ideas, new research, learning, and fun (always)!!! We love to see what our team can do with all of their hard work. ?? ?? Here are some things we have accomplished so far this semester: 1. ?? OwlHacks - some of our lab members organize and participated in Temple University's student run hackathon. 2. ? STARS Celebration - our lab had poster presentations for the STARS presentation and they also got to attend Tapia Conference! 3. ???? Grace Hopper Celebration - a few of our awesome lab members got to attend GHC '24, an amazing tech conference for women and underrepresented genders in tech! 4. ?? Studio Time - each week our research teams get to learn something and co-work with other teams for feedback. So much more to come, Happy Friday!! ?

Hats off to all the hackers, especially those who won awards in their tracks! Even those who didn’t walk away with prizes left with new skills, friends, and ideas for future projects. OwlHacks continues to be a platform for creativity, collaboration, and career growth. We're thrilled to announce the return of Temple University's annual hackathon, OwlHacks, this fall on October 5-6, 2024??. ??? This year's theme, "Explore the World," invites you to "Code Your Own Adventure" and explore diverse perspectives through technology. ??Join us for an inclusive event where creativity knows no borders and everyone is encouraged to bring their unique ideas to life.

Our paper about the desirable characteristics of AI teaching assistants received the "Best Paper Award" at ITiCSE! ?? This recognition represents the top 1% of all papers accepted at the conference. It was a great team effort led by Paul Denny, including Stephen MacNeil, PhD, Leo Porter, Jaromir Savelka, and Andrew Luxton-Reilly. Calling all students and employers! ?? ?? Owlhacks Spring 2023 marked a milestone as we returned to Temple University's campus for our first in-person hackathon since the lockdown. After what felt like a long pause, student activity soared. Over 125 attendees joined us, eager to learn and innovate. ?? Then, we shifted gears to Fall 2023 ?? to align with student and company schedules. With less than 6 months to prepare, our organizers worked hard to elevate the experience. Once again, the community’s response was overwhelming. This time, over 250 attendees came!!! ?? OwlHacks Fall 2023 was a huge success thanks to sponsors like Major League Hacking, The Cigna Group, Philadelphia Robotics Coalition, GitHub, and Temple HCI Lab. ?? Despite the many challenges students face today, they have continued to show a strong dedication to learn and grow. To use the technologies they acquire in the classroom to make a positive impact on the world. ?? ?? I’m proud to say that OwlHacks is coming back this fall! ?? This time around, we're prioritizing the student experience like never before with more engaging workshops, speaker sessions, delicious food, and fun bonding activities. Our goal? To create an inclusive environment where students from all backgrounds feel empowered to innovate, collaborate, and build lasting connections. ??
