Are landlines making a comeback? ?? We've heard parents are turning to landlines as a way to introduce their kids to phone tech in a more guided, family-friendly way. There's some good thinking behind this trend. It helps build confidence in speaking on the phone while also developing some independence in how they stay connected to friends and family.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's ... a flying COW? When bushfires tore through the Tasmanian West Coast recently, the Government Radio Network team rushed to help by deploying emergency connectivity equipment. They're called "COWs" —cell on wheels— and they can create dedicated networks that our Emergency Services' Radio Terminals can connect to when regular infrastructure loses power, or there's no existing coverage. A big thanks to our dedicated Field Services and Radio Engineering teams for their efforts to help keep communities supported during natural disasters and keeping communities safe.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred may have already left, but our teams haven’t gone anywhere. Our people on the ground have made huge progress bringing customers back online, now with over 95% of our mobile network restored. It takes a village, which is why our teams worked with emergency services to install backup generators and restore power. That’s not always easy when you’re dealing with fallen trees and flooded areas. Thank you to all our team members who’ve been on the ground working tirelessly to get the community back online.

?? Don't look down! Lili O'Connor is a trainee rigger whose role brings a whole new meaning to seeing something at a higher level. Our rigger team members scale many mobile towers across the country to maintain our networks. As a trainee, Lili undertakes intense training like practising descent techniques (which is not for the faint-hearted) and mastering special rope knots to haul up heavy pieces of equipment to safely assemble steel structures. Thanks to Lili, and her fellow riggers who work at great heights, they help us keep the network running smoothly. ?? Mount Gravatt, Queensland

It might look like a scene from a movie, but this is what keeping communities connected during a natural disaster looks like. ? Since severe flooding hit North and Far North Queensland, power outages have been the main cause of impacts to our network. Reaching affected areas safely to hook up generators has been extremely challenging. ? Our techs have been doing all they can to bring services back online - getting in by road, boat or air, with some help from the Australian Army. ? Many of our team members live in these affected areas and we’re so proud of them for their commitment to reconnecting their communities during such a difficult time.

Outside of being a Service Technician, I guess this means Sam Jacobs can probably add "storm chaser" to his resume too. Thanks to Sam's job, he gets to travel all around the state maintaining the network and fixing faults if they happen. That's when he snapped his ute having a bright idea somewhere across mid-north South Australia ? ??: Sam Jacobs
