  • Telecom Infra Project (TIP) – Path forward from Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona For the Telecom Infra Project leadership team, it was a productive and successful MWC, with over 40 meetings conducted, ~45km of steps walked, and a well-attended TIP Board Networking reception. As we set our sights on #fyuz25 in Dublin (Nov 3-5), here are the key takeaways driving our next steps: 1. Automation Strategies for OpenRAN: Requested by a cohort of global telecom operators, TIP will continue working with them to develop prioritized rAPPs, providing scalable choices for SON migration and automation in RAN workloads. Development is already underway with 16 xAPPs/rAPPs being developed for commercial use within the TIP OpenRAN RIA subgroup and additional initiatives being funded in the UK, North America, Taiwan and Ireland. Project ARIANE in the UK, in particular, was highlighted at MWC at the HCLTech booth and is almost complete. TIP Silver badges were also awarded to Amdocs, HCLTech, and Net Reply UK for their innovative AI/ML applications that improve energy efficiency, optimize traffic, and enhance quality of service, all verified through testing in a BT lab. Congratulations! 2. TelcoAI Implementation Strategies: A crucial takeaway from MWC is the need for standardized, referenceable implementation strategies aimed at the most impactful AI use cases for telecom operators, whether to enhance operational efficiency or explore new revenue streams. During MWC, TIP was able to successfully secure stronger commitments from telecom operators and suppliers to collaborate within the TIP TelcoAI Project Group, whose efforts, with the leadership of Deutsche Telekom, Orange, NVIDIA, and Intel Corporation, will provide a robust framework for the community to advance its AI strategies. 3. Open Optical & Packet Transport (OOPT): The TIP #OOPT community continues to refine specifications and deliver TIP-certified GA solutions to enable telcos to increase capacity in their optical and IP transport networks. TIP was proud to present its inaugural Gold Badge to NEC Corporation for its Network Operating System (NOS) software, which will play a pivotal role in the commercial deployment of the #Phoenix TIP-specified software-controlled 400G transponder across MTN and NTT production networks. We also congratulated KDDI Corporation for the successful commercial deployment of its cluster-based Distributed Backbone Router, utilizing the TIP OOPT community’s GA solutions for Disaggregated Open Router technology. With clear momentum and growing engagement, 2025 is shaping up to be a transformative year for TIP and the telecom industry. See you at #Fyuz25 in Dublin! ?? #OpenRAN #AI #fyuz25 #MWC25 Vishal Mathur Kristian Toivo Arturo Mayoral López de Lerma

  • ?????? ???? ?????????????? ???????? ??????’?? ?????????? ???????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????????? ??????! Exciting news in the world of open and disaggregated networking! NEC Corporation has become the first-ever vendor to receive the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) Phoenix Gold Badge for its Network Operating System (NOS) for optical transponders. This recognition marks a significant milestone for open optical networking. The Phoenix initiative, backed by NTT, Telia, Telefónica, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, and MTN, is driving the adoption of disaggregated, open hardware and software in the Optical and IP networking domain. NEC’s NOS—built on open-source software—empowers carrier-grade 400G optical transport networks while ensuring compliance with TIP’s rigorous technical standards. ???????????? ???? ?????? ??????????: To earn the Gold Badge, NEC’s NOS underwent field testing with MTN, one of Africa’s largest mobile operators. Testing in South Africa confirmed 400G transmission across multiple spans, compatibility with existing infrastructure, and commercial viability. NEC XON played a crucial role in integrating and deploying the solution, showcasing the strength of collaboration within the TIP ecosystem. This achievement builds on NEC’s Silver Badge in 2023, reaffirming its dedication to open, standards-based networking and collaboration with TIP. With NTT Communications already deploying this NOS, the industry is moving one step closer to a more open and interoperable future. Congratulations to NEC and all partners involved in driving this milestone! Looking forward to seeing more operators leverage TIP-compliant open solutions to transform optical networks. #OpenNetworking #TIPCommunity #PhoenixProject #DisaggregatedTransport #400G #OpticalNetworking #NEC #TelecomInfraProject
