I can't yet come up with a coherent analysis of why, but at least half of the telcos exhibiting at Mobile World Congress have a drone of some kind at the very front of their booth. The expressed intentions are varied, but it always involves some level of utilizing the 5G network's low latency. #mwc2025 Telecom Council

GenAI ... the good and the bad news for the telecom section. Good: AI isn't new, with machine learning and predictive AI already fully integrated; Bad: telcos may struggle to find the financial resources needed to invest in new AI tech. The World Economic Forum has partnered with Accenture to develop a better understanding of the current state of play of AI across the sector. https://loom.ly/2BtbN70

Here's an interesting story of circularity and sustainability from Deutsche Telkom in...well...Deutschland. The big "T" is working on a project to make wifi routers out of old mobile phones. The effort isn't large-scale. It's more of an experiment to test out the notion of repurposing old electronics into new ones. And instead of recycling, where the materials are ground up and re-used to manufacture new components, in this case the components of the mobile phones themselves are used in whole, but to make a fully different product. The phone's processors, memory, and circuit boards remain intact, but are wrapped in recycled plastics as an entirely different device. This kind of effort is important because the famous "three Rs" are actually very much inequal, with a declining value offered to the environment. Reduce is the most effective, and recycle is the least. But "re-use" sits in the middle and offers second life to existing electronics. Kudos to Telekom, and I look forward to seeing what kind of progress comes out of these experiments. https://lnkd.in/guh4S_vf Telecom Council The Cleantech Council Christina Claure Antje-Susan Metz Gabriel Stefan Ionita

No surprises that AI is driving an infrastructure market boom, but how big, and how long will it last are investigated by RCR Wireless. https://loom.ly/K6rSLi8
