    Mentorship opportunity with TGG!

Executive Director at Teens Grow Greens

Exciting Mentorship Opportunity with Teens Grow Greens I am thrilled to share an incredible opportunity to support Teens Grow Greens and its Youth Mentorship Project, coordinated by two passionate graduates. Shawnkia Casey-Baldwin and Sugey Contreras are inspired by mentorship and actively seek mentorship themselves from a diverse network of folks. Their mission is to connect dedicated mentors with youth, fostering growth, learning, and lasting relationships. Through mentorship, Sugey, Shawnkia and other TGG participants explore topics of careers and education, discuss work/life balance, and navigate decisions. Join us in making a difference in our community. Whether you can offer expertise in a specific area, provide ongoing guidance to a mentee, or suggest improvements to our programs, your contributions are invaluable. We host mixers for icebreakers and intentional relationship building. Our next mentor-mentee mixer will be held in late September, coinciding with Mexican Independence Day, to engage and celebrate our diverse community. Our mentorship coordinator, Shawnkia, can offer resources and help plan effective mentorship conversations. Email her at [email protected] If you have ideas or suggestions, please reach out. Together, we can shape a brighter future for our youth. Thank you for your support! Learn more about our program and how to get involved: https://lnkd.in/gnP5yJRs

Why create an internship that pays teenagers to explore and reimagine Milwaukee? ? Do you know why Milwaukee is the way that it is??Do you feel like you know enough of the city beyond your own neighborhood??Do you feel like you belong and that you make others feel that sense of belonging??What assets does the city have and what solutions to deficits can you offer? ? These are the kinds of questions we’ll be asking 15 Teens this summer during a new internship called?Leading the Way: Exploring & Rethinking Milwaukee, which will run from June 15 - August 23, 2024. This nine-week summer internship will have a skill focus of city exploration, city critique, and city (re)design so that the Teens can see themselves as vital stakeholders in their city who are able to experience and express their city in new ways. ? Over the past 10 years, we have heard the Teens wonder why Milwaukee isn’t “their Milwaukee.”?A teen from the south side might know the south side and a teen from the north side might know that area.?They might hear or think things about other neighborhoods, good or bad.?But they often don't know many other places, the people who live there and the things the neighborhoods have to offer–let alone how things got to be the way they are.?And they certainly don’t all feel like Milwaukee is designed for them, for young people.?? ? With notebooks and cameras in hand, 15 new interns will explore the city’s history–its original indigenous inhabitants and immigrants, its founding and industrialization,?its?past?of redlining and?present?sustainability efforts–as well as explore a new neighborhood cluster each week,?including Lindsay Heights, Historic Mitchell Street, Harambee, and Riverwest.?They will observe closely, listen to neighborhood residents, document their experiences, and reflect on the community assets that exist–and that could exist.?While our other internships immerse Teens in culinary, gardening, and entrepreneurship skills, with knives, shovels, and pitch decks in hand, this one will let Teens loose in their own backyard to learn how to advocate for their city and ultimately themselves. ? The idea behind this new internship arose when the Internship Team identified the current internships as offering “safe, brave, and bold spaces” for teens to feel belonging, to take risks, and to become leaders: the Kitchen, the Garden, the Workshop.?They began thinking of other safe, brave, bold spaces that Teens could explore and the most powerful one that emerged was the City.?Through many conversations with interns, apprentices, staff, and community members, the plan for?Leading the Way: Exploring & Rethinking Milwaukee?was solidified. ? This is an innovative approach to creating leadership skills and the future leaders of Milwaukee.?No program like this exists in the city.?I cannot wait to see what new adventures the Teens have and what new ideas for the city they create. https://lnkd.in/gXD-pZHD

A Growing partnership between Teens Grow Greens, Milwaukee Area Technical College. Thank you American Family Insurance for your support!

It's March and TGG Apprentices are already talking post-secondary plans. Our programs are not just career-based exploration. Apprentices spent 9 hours talking about how their paths are defined by their dreams or detailing things like their 5-year plan or ideal resume. What's cooler than that? Well, it lead to a culminating collaborative event called "Making Connections" at Nō Studios. On behalf of Teens Grow Greens, I am thrilled to appreciate Courtney Kelly(Martin) & Milwaukee Area Technical College for building an opportunity with us where teens could increase their networks and build new connections with MATC and its program offerings. 40 young people from TGG and @escuela verde shared space, networked, ate great food, and heard from a panel of graduates who've completed technical, certification and associates programs. Partnerships and intentional collaboration are some of our best tools for connecting youth to opportunities. Thank you to American Family Insurance & BlocPower for sponsoring!! Connections matter. Connections work. Check out the post from our Marketing Dept. on IG https://lnkd.in/gan5yEqD
