If you drive a car made in the last 5 yrs, it’s likely collecting a ton of extremely detailed #data every time you drive – from where you are and how fast you’re going, to how hard you brake, and more. Your #automaker can share or sell this info to data brokers, insurers, and others. Insurance co.'s have used driver data to raise consumers’ rates and deny coverage, all without your knowledge. Data brokers are businesses that collect data from many sources and sell it to marketers, financial companies, law enforcement, and even stalkers. A new Consumer Reports investigation found that many automakers share data w/ data brokers. One major exception is General Motors (GM) – because CR members helped pressure the FTC to ban GM from sharing drivers’ personal data and forced GM to disclose who they share with. We are often unaware that we have agreed to these data-sharing terms, which are deeply buried in the consent forms that appear on the car’s onboard display or a connected mobile app. You should never have to pay more for car insurance based on info you didn’t know you were sharing. "I was a vice principal of a middle school and never, ever raced a BMX bike." Never one to back down from a challenge, Kittie Weston-Knauer took up BMX racing just before she turned 40. By 59, she placed 7th in the world in her class and maintained a top ranking in the U.S. for years. During her career, Kittie has worked tirelessly to make the sport more accessible to women, volunteered with the group, Black Girls Do Bike, and pushed to have a 61 and over women's cruiser class — just like the men.
