They accelerate and travel at speeds most adult bicyclists can't achieve (except going downhill). They are much closer to mopeds—especially the designs most popular with kids. Here are some skills parents can assess to determine if their teen has the physical and cognitive readiness to drive an ebike.

You are responsible for a passenger’s safety as well as your own. Make sure you know what you’re doing, and how to drive your ebike defensively. Accelerate slowly and leave extra space for stopping. Your bike must have a seat and foot pegs for the passenger. If you’re carrying another teen, or a child, make sure they have their helmet fastened properly. #ebike #ebikelife #ebikesafety

The most important skill a bike rider needs is the ability to turn around and look back before changing lanes. Looking back is both a safety skill and a communication skill.
