Mental Health and Substance Abuse Solutions for Today and the Rest of Your Child’s Life Teen and Family Services is committed to providing teens ages 13-18 and their families the tools, skills and knowledge to deal with mental health and substance abuse problems in a holistic way. The mission of Teen & Family Services is to be a community of families growing and healing from the negative effects of teen substance?use, high-risk behaviors, and mental health issues. TAFS has developed a research-based program that has helped thousands of teens reclaim their lives. The prosocial model that TAFS utilizes provides a safe and sober environment for teens to socialize after school, in school, and on weekends. These students receive daily support by peers that can relate to common struggles and challenges. Through this supportive environment, teens are encouraged to make positive life choices and participate in recovery-related social activities. Understanding that these issues are prevalent throughout all socioeconomic strata, TAFS has expanded its efforts to reach low-income populations. TAFS's work serves many of Houston’s most challenged and underserved communities, such as Kashmere Gardens, Sunnyside, South Park, Near Northside, Sharpstown, and 5th Ward. TAFS also serves teens and families at its original location in the Memorial/Spring Branch area and in South Houston. TAFS is SO excited to have hosted this amazing group of volunteers at our new Council on Recovery location with OOTR Consulting, Good Reason Houston, and Jamaur Barnes Blueprint Coalition. We were able to feed 500 houseless individuals just before Christmas! Looking forward to growing our partnership and continuing to positively effect the community!

Nehemiah 8:12 NIV: “Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them.” Dec 23: This picture was taken after tons of volunteers and a host of organizations partnered with me to ensure the homeless of Houston had enough food to at least get to Christmas! What you don’t see is that I was 8 calendar days from my official lay off date, had yet to clear my desk, was holding on to the last bits of that season of my career, & was still learning to trust His plan! Jan 17: I’m 17 days into full entrepreneurship, I’ve had a hiccup or two; & this morning, I read the verse in Nehemiah, & the context was that the people celebrated because they understood the word of God! Today, as I prepared to exit my prayer closet, I heard, ‘God has you,’ & I wrote that down! Each day on this journey, I’m leaning in, excited about the day, trusting what He has, & greeting the day with positive anticipation & connectivity!
