Ideas Change Everything

关于我们

TEDxReno is an independently organized licensee of the TED organization, a renowned global nonprofit with a 40-year legacy. TED is celebrated for its conferences featuring short TED Talks that engage millions and have collectively amassed several billion views. The TED community believes in the transformative power of ideas centered around Technology, Entertainment, and Design to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world. In this spirit, TED created the TEDx program—independently organized, TED-like events designed to inspire innovation and share “ideas worth spreading” within local communities. TEDxReno embodies this mission by curating a platform where leading-edge thinkers and doers share their insights through short presentations that tackle humanity’s toughest questions with creativity, enterprise, and optimism. Our events are produced by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about fostering dialogue and connection within the Reno community. TEDxReno talks are not only shared live but also uploaded to the TEDx YouTube Channel, which boasts over 35 million followers. Collectively, videos from TEDxReno and its predecessors have reached over 100 million viewers, amplifying the voices and ideas that matter most to us. Additionally, TEDxReno Salons provide an intimate setting for deeper discussions on specific topics. These smaller gatherings encourage community members to engage with thought leaders, share perspectives, and explore pressing issues in a relaxed atmosphere. Each Salon aims to cultivate ongoing conversations that inspire action and connect individuals who are passionate about making a difference. Join us as we explore the ideas that inspire action, challenge the status quo, and ignite conversations that lead to meaningful change. Together, we can harness the power of innovative thinking to shape a brighter future for all!

Harvard Psychologist | Founder of Center for Anxiety | Keynote Speaker & Author

This picture is more than 10-years old. I had recently founded Center for Anxiety's Manhattan office, and beneath my big smile, I was majorly struggling with anxiety myself! On the one hand, I felt duplicitous - how could I help others with anxiety when I had my own heart palpitations and shortness of breath to deal with?? On the other hand, it made perfect sense that I was anxious. I was chasing a dream of starting a clinic in New York, while managing an academic career in Boston where I live with my family. The commute, the stress, the pressure, and the lifestyle was... a lot! Often, when we chase our biggest goals and dreams, anxiety shows up. Rather than seeing it as a problem, I realized that it was a tool to help me grow. The turning point for me was acknowledging my anxiety and sharing it with others. Are you feeling anxious? If so, can you take the plunge and share what’s on your mind and heart today?? #mentalhealthmatters #growthmindset #resiliencebuilding #thrivingwithanxiety

Build Your Best Team Ever | Keynote Speaker | Bestselling Author | Organizational Psychologist

Ever notice how leaders feel pressured to always have the answers? It’s understandable—most people get promoted for solving problems, making decisions, and being the go-to for solutions. But here’s the surprising part: "The best leaders don’t know it all—they admit when they don’t." I once believed that as a leader, saying “I don’t know” would undermine my credibility. Turns out, it does the opposite. When you’re honest about not having all the answers, something important happens: 1. You’re building trust. By being open, you show your team that you trust them enough to share your vulnerability. The people you trust most are the ones you can be real around. This sets the stage for stronger relationships. 2. You’re inviting collaboration. Instead of pretending to have all the answers, you’re creating space for your team to step up. You’re signaling, “I want to hear your perspective. Let’s solve this together.” 3. You’re being human. Let’s be real—your team already knows you don’t have all the answers. Admitting that doesn’t diminish your leadership. In fact, it reinforces your authenticity. You don’t win respect by pretending you know it all. You win respect by being real. __ ?? Mike Haynie, Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families - IVMF Families, shares a powerful message in his ?his 2015 TEDxUniversityofNevada talk, "The Moral Obligation to Know Our Veterans." He challenges us to go beyond simply saying "thank you for your service" and truly engage with veterans—listening to their stories, acknowledging their struggles, and connecting on a deeper level. This Veterans Day, we’re reminded of the powerful message from Sara Maniscalco Robinson's TEDxDesMoines talk, "Life Lessons I've Learned From Interviewing Veterans." On Veterans Day, we want to share a powerful message from Richard Doss's TEDxNaperville talk, "Trained Not to Cry: The Challenge of Being a Soldier." Doss reminds us that veterans are often trained to suppress their emotions, making the transition back to civilian life especially tough. The TEDxReno team echoes his call to break the stigma surrounding mental health, encouraging real, empathetic conversations with veterans today and always. Let’s honor their service by listening and supporting them beyond just a "thank you." #VeteransDay #MentalHealthAwareness #TEDx

Today, on Veterans Day, we at TEDxReno want to amplify the powerful message Gov. Wes Moore shared in his TEDSalon NY2014 talk, "How to Talk to Veterans About the War." While expressing gratitude is important, it’s just the beginning. True support for our veterans goes beyond a simple "thank you for your service." It involves taking the time to engage in real, meaningful conversations, listening without assumptions, and giving veterans the space to share their stories on their own terms. Let’s honor veterans today and always by being genuinely curious about their experiences and the complex, nuanced lives they lead beyond the uniform. #TEDxReno #Veterans

In his 2015 TED Talk, "Our Lonely Society Makes It Hard to Come Home From War," Sebastian Junger discusses the profound challenges veterans face when returning home from combat. He emphasizes that the isolation many veterans experience can be as damaging as the physical wounds they carry. On this Veterans Day, as the TEDxReno LinkedIn social manager, and on behalf of the TEDxReno team, we believe supporting our veterans goes beyond gratitude - it requires creating communities where they feel connected, understood, and valued every day, not just on Veterans Day. #VeteransDay #Community #TEDx #TEDxReno #SupportVeterans
