Join us in celebrating the 86th birthday of our founder, the one and only Ted Turner! With each passing year, Ted continues to inspire and challenge us to do our part to share the transformative power of nature and Save Everything. Guests of Ted Turner Reserves have unfettered access to 1.1 million acres of restored New Mexico land because of Ted's foresight, generosity, and genuine care for our Earth. As Ted says, "When we connect with nature, we heal ourselves. When we protect nature, we heal the planet."

"The Power is Yours!" That was the message for 16 northern New Mexico youth who participated in the Captain Planet - Planeteer Alliance Youth Bootcamp in late October at Vermejo. It was a great opportunity for the youth to learn how they might make change in their communities related to climate and the environment, and for the Captain Planet folks to learn which climate and environmental topics are of concern to western rural communities. Some of the topics were regenerative agriculture, wind energy, local food production, and deforestation due to wildfires. After a little classroom time, the group enjoyed lunch on the veranda, lawn games, and casting lessons.

Meet Max and Molly. ?? Max Marwin is a graduate student working on a study about black bear and cougar interactions or "kleptoparasitism" at Vermejo. Molly is his super-friendly pup. ?? This year we had research teams studying bison, Rio Grande cutthroat trout genetics, brook trout, brown-capped rosy finch, Merriam’s turkey genetics, jumping mouse, wildlife migration patterns, glacial deposits, seismicity, plant diversity, forest ecosystem change, snowpack, and river-stream health. The Vermejo staff enjoyed sharing ideas, answering and asking questions, and learning with the researchers. Many of the studies are continuing and we look forward to new projects in 2025.
