As an organization, we are thrilled to work closely with Wayne State University, to ensure that students are paired with the internship opportunities that will most benefit them and their goals within Detroit's tech and entrepreneurial ecosystems. ?? Our internship program is closely aligned with Wayne State’s?College to Career initiative, which aims to broaden the university’s approach to student success and enhance its impact on the broader community. ?? Our internships are a great example of the "learning by doing" experiences outlined in this initiative!
Training students for career success is at the heart of Wayne State’s mission to foster social and economic mobility. It’s a key component of our strategic framework. Through our partnership with TechTown Detroit, we’re preparing Warriors to transition seamlessly from college to career with hands-on experience. TechTown’s paid internship program not only equips our students with marketable skills but also helps them build the professional networks they need to thrive after graduation. This 15-week opportunity is available each fall and winter semester, offering students the chance to work directly with Detroit’s inspiring community of tech founders, entrepreneurs, and innovators. This is how we ensure that our Warriors graduate career-ready, with real-world experience and strong connections to the people and places driving Detroit's future. Our President and CEO Ned Staebler penned an op-ed piece for Crain's Detroit Business, detailing realistic ways for Michigan to invest in growth, and make a profit while doing so. ?? Staebler pointed to several data points identifying how Michigan is lagging compared to its neighboring states when it comes to supporting entrepreneurship and the innovation ecosystem. He suggested a strategic investment that would go towards venture capital firms, pre-seed and investigation stage funds and entrepreneurial support organizations, which, in turn, would help grow Michigan's economy, retain younger populations and much more.
Opinion: Here's the right way our state can invest in growth — and make a profit
