We delved into detailed implementations for nonprofits, discussing why Salesforce is transitioning from profiles to permission sets. Big thank you to Matt Henry who showed us how he documents Permission Set Groups (PSGs) and gave us some real use-case tips. A key takeaway for me was learning about muting permissions within permission set groups. This allows for creating a permission set with full access and then muting specific permissions, like delete access, within a group. I can not say enough about my experience at the Dreamin' In Color Conference’.?I got to see old friends and make new ones. I am pumped to say that Cédric Vergé will be presenting at Salesforce Saturday for Nonprofits soon. He is part of the wizarding team crafting UX Magic at Avonni. With Avonni, I was able to build out a pretty awesome UI feature in just 10 minutes. Here's the use case: A year or two ago I was working with a major gifts team that needed a solution to visualize their donor base geographically, filter by portfolio, and quickly access donor details.?I wish I had something other than Tableau to offer them at that time, because I built what they wanted with Avonni?Flow Components fast! ?? What I Built: I created a dynamic donor map within a custom app page. The map not only showcases donor locations but also filters by total gifts and can zoom in based on other selected criteria like Billing State. ? Why It Matters: Imagine effortlessly planning donor events or outreach trips based on geographical insights.?Avonni's capabilities empower nonprofits to engage with their donors in a more targeted and impactful way. ? Often, there are things nonprofits wish they had within the user interface that they currently don't have. It even came up in a recent Salesforce Saturday when someone requested a presentation entitled: "Page Layouts that make sense!" Some requests come in from users and I've thought, "I think you need a Lightning component for that, but I don't know how to build Lightning Components." I recently discovered this awesome app called Avonni that sits on top of Salesforce, and I’m excited to share it with you. Avonni includes free ScreenFlow components that let you do some really cool things with your user interface. For example, for grants managers, I’ve used?Avonni?to set up a data table on the left side showing all grant opportunities grouped by stage, and on the right side, there’s a list of upcoming deliverables. It’s been super handy for managing tasks without needing auto flows! One of my favorite features is viewing deliverables in a calendar form. I can see at a glance what’s coming up, like a due date for a Gates Foundation grant. Once the deliverable is done, I can just update the close date, save, and check it off my list. There are so many possibilities with Avonni. You can easily customize data tables, add buttons and icons, and make it searchable and sortable. The?Avonni?calendar component also allows for easy data mapping and clickable functions, making management a breeze. I’ve only scratched the surface and can’t wait to show you more nonprofit use cases. ?? Salesforce Saturday Roundup! ?? This past week, I shared my journey in planning fundraising events and my vision for an exciting new event called Changemaker Dreamin. The idea is to offer nonprofits not only hands-on training but also opportunities to complete multi-day projects identified ahead of time. Inspired by my work with Hands On Connect Twin Cities and Roots for the Home Team, where we transformed their project management needs in just eight hours, I'm convinced we can replicate this success for other organizations. Imagine a virtual event where nonprofits receive hands-on training and others work on real projects – it’s going to be amazing! ?? Special thanks to Lisa, Lee, and Jules for their contributions during our brainstorming session. Here’s some of what what we came up with: Hands-on trainings Flows for nonprofits Page layouts that make sense NPSP customizable roll-ups User adoption challenges Better dashboards Org-wide security understanding Documentation of processes Formulas Also Swag (even for a virtual conference!) Our goal is to create a hybrid event, combining virtual sessions with local nonprofit user group meetups and parties in various cities. This will be more engaging than a simple Zoom webinar and less resource-intensive than a full in-person conference. I'm aiming for a launch date between October and January, with January looking most likely. The energy and ideas from our small group were fantastic, and I’m eager to see this come to life. P.S. One of my favorite ideas was to make this a paid conference with a twist: for each task you complete, you get a portion of your money back.
