Moving abroad for college is tough. New country, new language, new professional norms — it’s a lot to navigate. Pat Chaisang faced that challenge when she moved from Thailand to Canada in 2013. Lacking a support system, she started Wayble, an edtech platform helping international students build careers and community. “At the time, I didn’t know where to turn for professional guidance,” Chaisang told Technical.ly. Wayble now partners with 30+ Canadian universities offering orientation guides, job listings, mentorship and immigration support. Students keep access after graduation to ease the transition into the workforce. It all started as a local meetup group that swelled to 1,000 members during the pandemic. In the Pittsburgh mayor’s race, organized labor groups are now split between incumbent Ed Gainey and challenger Corey O’Connor. Darrin Kelly, president of the Allegheny/Fayette Central Labor Council, emphasized the collaborative nature of Pittsburgh’s labor landscape. “When you look at every board in the city and county, they include labor, elected officials, business leaders, nonprofits, and community leaders,” he said. “Labor has always been part of the conversation.” Now, that conversation is shifting. The city’s mayoral race is testing labor’s unity, as union endorsements are splitting between incumbent Ed Gainer and his most prominent challenger, Allegheny County Controller Corey O’Connor.
