In October, I had the privilege of attending my first EOXcentric, an experience that resonated on a transformative level. The insights shared by the distinguished speakers were both inspiring and actionable. John "Gucci" Foley‘s presentation on the Blue Angels’ culture of openness to constructive feedback underscored the power of transparency in high-performance teams. Lisa Atherton from Bell Helicopters highlighted the importance of “Making Space to Allow for Diverse Thinking,” a principle crucial for fostering innovation. Geoff Woods introduced a perspective on leveraging AI to enhance strategic thinking, broadening my approach to decision-making. And Justin Wren “the Viking” story was deeply moving; his journey serves as a reminder to mentor and uplift the next generation. Gary Ng mentions in his article how real-time monitoring catches hazards before they become incidents, and AI chatbots provide instant safety guidance to workers, fostering a safety-first mindset. Plus, with AI handling repetitive tasks, EH&S managers can focus on more strategic initiatives. Personally, we’ve experienced the shift ourselves. EH&S is no longer just about reacting to incidents or meeting compliance; it's about getting ahead of risks with data-driven decisions. We’ve invested in tech like the VISICS - Safe and Efficient Turnarounds camera system and the myIH data field collection software, and the results have been eye-opening.
