IT Employment Trends ?? While September brought unexpected job growth with 254,000 new jobs added across the U.S. economy, IT employment remained relatively flat, dipping by 0.03%, or 1,700 jobs, month-over-month, according to TechServe Alliance. On an annual scale, the IT sector saw a slight contraction of 0.28%, totaling a loss of 15,100 positions. In contrast, engineering employment showed growth, increasing by 0.92% and adding 25,800 jobs. Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance, noted, “While the broader economy showed resilience, IT employment has remained essentially stagnant. After a decline in 2022 and 2023, IT job growth in 2024 has been flat, with minimal month-to-month changes.” However, there’s optimism on the horizon.
